Doris Mae Mucha Obituary

DORIS MAE “DODIE” MUCHA (nee Allison) Dear wife, mother, aunt and friend went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ, her Savior, on October 11, 2020. She was 88 years old and went quickly in the Lord's good hands and perfect timing. Beloved wife of Andrew P. Mucha for 54 years. He predeceased her. Dear mother of Allison (David) and Robert (Regina). Also survived by numerous relatives and long-time friends. The family wishes to express gratitude for the many kind expressions of love and care to her over the years and now in this time. She will be missed but she is alive forever in heaven. Dodie grew up in the Niagara Falls area of New York. She walked about 30 minutes to a one-room schoolhouse, sometimes enjoying snowbanks along the way. The schoolchildren’s coats hung to dry by a coal stove. In summer she worked in the farm garden, which began a life-long interest in gardening. Her mother sometimes “wondered” aloud why more wild strawberries did not return with her children when they were sent to pick for jam. There were some visits to Scotland during her childhood to visit her mom’s family. One was shortened by her dad’s urgent call for the family to return by ship just weeks before Glasgow was bombed in WW II. Although she lived through Depression shortages and WW II government food rationing, there was no rationing of family love throughout most of her lifetime. She was a registered nurse and graduate of SUNY Buffalo. Her work ethic was notable. Often laundry and lunch bags were done before breakfast before getting children off to school and going on to work. She had at least one perfect attendance record at work, often arriving early even in snowstorms and wearing a leg cast. Although Andy her husband often traveled for work, both parents were closely involved in their children’s lives. Fall through spring they tried to make Robert’s many athletic events. Dodie was known for her sunshine smile. She was also compassionate and quick to notice needs of others and offer support. In later years she was blessed by God to be surrounded by kind helpers, which allowed her to stay in her home up to her last moment on earth. The family is thankful for friends of the family and neighbors, and even total strangers who would assist along with family members. Her church family was a great blessing to her with their love, kindness, support and prayers. She loved the people God placed in her life. She knew they were a gift from Him. Most of all, she loved her Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. She found much comfort in reading God’s Word in her Bible, which she normally did every morning. “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light into my path.” Psalms 119: 105 “It is of the LORD’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him.” Lamentations 3:22-24 “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28 Family will receive friends Wednesday, October 21, 2020 from 4-8 pm at A.J. Desmond & Sons (Vasu, Rodgers & Connell Chapel), 32515 Woodward Avenue (btwn 13-14 Mile), (248) 549-0500. Funeral Service Thursday, October 22, 2020, 11 am at Grace Baptist Church, 280 E. Lincoln, Birmingham, MI 48009. (248) 646-2000 Luncheon at church to follow. Burial on Thursday, October 22, 2020 at 2 PM at Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Road, Holly, MI 48442. The kindness shown to mom from others was such a gift appreciated in her lifetime. Some may wish to make a memorial donation at this time. If so, the following could be considered, and any gifts to them would be received with gratitude. Thank you.
