Steven "Steve" Middling Obituary

Steven (Steve) Middling was born on April 2nd, 1961 in San Jose, California, to Gloria Jean Middling. He passed October 9th, 2020 at Cherry Hill Swedish Hospital with his sister, Debbie, by his side. His 59 years were filled with lots of love and laughter; he will forever live on in the many hearts he touched. Steve was a lifelong resident of Vashon Island. He graduated in 1980 from Vashon High School. Steve had an adventurous spirit and loved doing anything outside. Some of his favorite activities included hosting many campouts, driving his gator around the property, cutting and selling kindling at Mom's Deli, fishing with his brother and nephews, shooting his guns, going swimming (and doing huge cannonballs) at his Uncle Tom and Aunt Karla's house, and flying kites at the ocean. He would never turn down a meal of good Fish n' Chips or Chinese Food. Steve loved working in the woods logging with his Uncles Jack, John, and Rick and then riding in the logging truck with his Grandpa Wes. In his later years he worked with his brother Brad and nephew Jake maintaining the shopping centers. He was proud to help do seal coating, stripping, painting, and all kinds of other construction projects. Selling Christmas Trees with his brother Brad and nephew Jake was always a highlight for him.

He was an avid collector of many things: binoculars, chainsaws, fishing poles, crosses, knives, belt buckles, and any tools he could get a good bargain on at Granny's Attic. Steve embodied the Christmas spirit all year; starting with picking presents out yearlong. The day after Thanksgiving he was already pulling out lights and decorations and would create spectacular Christmas displays in his front yard. He would often enlist his family to come help him. Anything truck related was a popular topic of conversation with Steve. Prior to his passing, he was working on restoring an old Ford highboy and had ambitious plans for the Jeep in the backyard. Steve was incredibly generous with his tools and would let anyone borrow them- but would always keep a close eye on them. He had a talent for coloring and drawing. He was proud to be a member of the Vashon Eagles Club. Steve was rarely seen without a smile on his face and some article of camouflage clothing on. He could always fill a room with his joyful spirit. Steve enjoyed shopping online ·with his sister Debbie, they would have fun looking through hunting and fishing items. He was always eager for his packages to arrive in the mail.

Steve is survived by his siblings: Bradley (Kristin) Middling, Deborah Long, Linda (Robert) Elfstrom, Candrease (Jerry) Hoeper Doug (Tammy) Raab, Toni (Dan) Schwartzman, Willie Rice and many other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins who loved him.
