Ricky Wayne West

Funeral services for Ricky Wayne West will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 18, 2020 at Silver Creek Baptist Church with Reverends Terry McDonald and Klay Harrison officiating. Burial will follow in Silver Creek Cemetery under the direction of Jeane’s Funeral Service. A visitation will be held at the church on Saturday, October 17th beginning at 6:00 p.m. and will continue until the time of service on Sunday. Ricky was born August 3, 1959 and was reunited with his daughter Sabre, his mother Mary, and his father Rayford on October 14, 2020 at the age of 61. He was a man known by many names such as Stump, Pop, Papa Ricky, Pawpaw Stump, and Hey Ump. He graduated from Leesville High School in 1977. He was a proud Wampus Cat and will forever be remembered on the baseball and football field as Stump. He lived most of his life in Leesville but lived near Jones, Oklahoma for quite a few years after high school and could tell stories for days about the times he had while living there. Growing up he and his brother Bill were no strangers to hard work. He hauled many a bale of hay, broke ground with a horse and plow, busted countless piles of wood, worked cows, and caught wild horses. Ricky devoted around 34 years to Public Works right here in Leesville, and for over 20 years, he umpired summer league and high school softball and baseball games. Ricky met the love of his life, Heather, over 20 years ago and has been married to her just over 10 years. Their devoted love for one another was seen and known by all who crossed their path. He was a mountain of a man with a kind, loving heart. He could stop you in your tracks with the boom of his voice and with that same voice he could light up his granddaughter’s eyes with a soothing song of “You Are My Sunshine”. He loved with all he had, and that love was shown through his love for Heather and his family. He found great joy with seeing his 15 grandchildren playing and laughing. He enjoyed raising and tending to his hogs and had a big laugh when they found their way over to his daughter Ian’s house. He enjoyed shooting pool with Heather in the pool league, and he loved riding his motorcycle. He took pride in carrying on the syrup making tradition passed down from his granddaddy Willie and his daddy Rayford. Ricky found God at an early age, and he loved serving the Lord. He was an active member of Silver Creek Baptist Church. He served as the groundskeeper and a was a board member for Silver Creek Cemetery Association. He was a devoted husband who loved his wife deeply, a proud father who made sure his children knew how proud he was of them, a caring brother who would do anything for his siblings, and an amazing grandfather that any child would be blessed to have. Ricky was preceded in death by his parents, William Rayford West Sr. and Mary Dale West and daughter, Sabre West. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Heather West of Leesville, LA, sons, Chance West and wife Lyndsey of Leesville, LA and Shay Harland and wife Jennifer of Baton Rouge, LA, daughters, Ian McDonald and husband Terry of Leesville, LA; Asa Harrison and husband Klay of Haughton, LA; Brittney Erwin of Lacey, WA; and Aerial Erwin of Leesville, LA, brothers, Bill West of Leesville, LA; Dean Stanley and wife Bonnie of Leesville, LA; Chuck Marshall and wife Donna of Pace, FL; and Mike Dan of Jones, OK, sister, Diane West of Leesville, LA, grandchildren, J’Den Harrison, Nathan McDonald, Joseph McDonald, Jaxon West, Judah Harrison, Luke McDonald, Emily Grigg, Sawyer West, Kamdyn Sibley, Levi McDonald, Elijah Carson, Lilly West, Gentry West, Ryan Harland, and Caroline Harland, and a host of extended family and friends.
