Winona Brass Obituary

Winona Lydia Brass (Nee) Whitehawk was born on August 13th, 1933 to Roy and Nellie Whitehawk on Cote First Nation.

In March 1980 she became a woman of God.  Since then she devoted her life to God so that she could someday meet Jesus face to face.  The special date and time didn’t come fast enough for her – God made her dream come true on Thursday October 8th, 2020.  The prayers that she prayed for her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great- great grandchildren, her Whitehawk clan and friends were very special, strong and from the heart.

Winona was a Residential and Day School survivor.  No matter what kind of education she obtained the education she treasured most were her Bible studies which she taught herself how to use the dictionary and strengthen her vocabulary.

Our Mother ventured into the workforce, at Yorkton Leather Craft where she sewed moccasins, wrap arounds, mukluks, and beaded vamps etc. Her favorite pastime at the nursing home was reading her Bible and writing scriptures; doing her word search and crosswords; watching TV (her favorite thing to watch was seniors dancing from a hall in Yorkton that aired on Access); playing bingo and going to the flea market at the nursing home and much more.

Winona leaves to mourn her children Marilyn, Alerena, Arnold (Brenda), Sheila, Lorne, Earl, Erin, Eunice and Ted.Q; her brother Langford Whitehawk; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and five generations of great- great grandchildren; numerous  nieces and nephews all of whom she loved dearly. Winona was predeceased by her parents Roy and Nellie Whitehawk; Alex Whitehawk who she thought of more like a dad than and uncle; her lifelong partner and husband Lawrence Brass; daughters Doran, Beverly, Elaine, and Kimberly; son-in-law’s Roy Brazeau and Sam Buffalo; grandchildren Heather, Cynthia, Charlie, Tara, Arnold and Elaine; brothers and sisters Cora, Alma, Joyce, Mervin, Wesley, Delbert, Clifford and Peter. T (Chippier).
