Ray Zinck Obituary

Retired journalist and author Ray Zinck passed away on October 14, 2020. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Louise ( Crosby); daughter, Lisa Carter (David) , Yarmouth; Rhonda Harding (Greg) South Ohio and beloved grandson, Matthew Harding, who always called his grandfather “Huppa”. Ray is also survived by sister, Joan McLaughlin(Thomas), Beaverbank NS; brother, Dale (Mary Jane) Dartmouth, and identical twin, Roy(Debbie),Dartmouth. He was the son of the late Elsie and Victor Zinck. Ray was born in LaHave , Lunenburg County. He graduated from high school with honours and later earned a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Dalhousie University. In 1971, Ray began a 45-year career in radio journalism, first at CFDR in Dartmouth, NS and CKKC in Nelson BC. Most of his career was at CJLS, Yarmouth where he earned many national and regional awards for his story telling. In 1988 he was named Reporter of the year for Atlantic Canada. Ray later became a co-owner of CJLS, becoming President and General Manager. In later years, Ray wrote a book about Second World War which has been translated into the Slovene language where the story took place. Throughout his long career as News Director at CJLS, Ray’s single passion was always about the writing. He took particular pride in telling the stories of Canada’s war veterans. On many occasions he accompanied veterans from World War 1, World War 2, and the Korean War to many of their old battlefields throughout Europe, Hong Kong and South Korea. He always felt honoured to tell their stories. Arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny's Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth.
