Dr. John Murrell Nelson, 85, of Pollock, passed away on October 14, 2020 in New Orleans, Louisiana at Tulane Medical Center. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, October 17, 2020 at Wayside Baptist Church, 9661 Hwy 165, Pollock, Louisiana 71467. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 17, 2020 at Wayside Baptist Church, 9661 Hwy 165, Pollock, Louisiana 71467 with the Rev. Kevin Simmons of Wayside Baptist Church, officiating. Graveside services and interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 4000 Military Hwy, Ball, Louisiana 71405. Arrangements conducted by Gallagher Funeral Home. Dr. Nelson was born Latanier, Louisiana to Otis and Edith Nalley Nelson on January 17, 1935. He married Barbara Dupree on September 14, 1963 at College Park Baptist Church in Pineville, Louisiana. He graduated from Palmer School of Chiropractic in 1959. He worked as a chiropractor for 50 years. He was involved in Kiwanis International serving as president. He served his family, friends and community with a plethora of knowledge, wisdom and generosity. He was a quite, strong presence who made an indelible mark in the hearts of those who knew him. Dr. Nelson is preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Edith Nelson. Dr. Nelson is survived by his beloved and devoted wife, Barbara “Bobbie” Nelson, two sons, one daughter, and five grandchildren. Son, Sharm Alan Nelson of Boise, Idaho and his son, Jordan Alan Nelson (wife Samantha Colwell Nelson); Son, Dr. Kemp John Nelson (wife, Felicia Bradford Nelson) of Pollock and their three sons, Peyton John-Curtis Nelson, Kaleb Aaron and Jacob Hunter Nelson. Daughter, Kendra Dee Nelson Fancher of Pollock, and her daughter Kensey Rhea Fancher. Sister, Mrs. Jeanell Nelson Foster and her family. Pallbearers will be Peyton Nelson, Kaleb Nelson, Hunter Nelson, Cory Fredieu, Jordan Nelson, and Mike Walsworth.
