Marvin D. Courtney, Sr.

Marvin D. Courtney, Sr., 85, while surrounded by his family, passed away on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at his residence in Oak Grove. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, October 16, 2020 at the Hattiesburg Chapel of Moore Funeral Home with interment in Highland Cemetery to follow. Marvin had served his Country by enlisting in the U. S. Marine Corps and then joined the U. S. Air Force where he served in the Vietnam War and later retired after twenty-one years of service. He then worked as an engineer for Forrest General Hospital where he retired after seventeen years of service. Marvin was quite active with the Masonic Lodge where he became a thirty-second Degree Mason, he was a Shriner, a member of the York Rite, Scottish Rite, and the Eastern Star. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley Courtney; daughter, Lisa Garner; parents, E. B. and Lucy Courtney; a brother, E. B. Courtney, Jr.; and a sister, Betty Whitehead. He is survived by his wife, Jean Courtney of Oak Grove; three sons, Marvin (Belinda) Courtney, Jr. of Oak Grove, Melvin Courtney of Oak Grove, Bobby (Pam) Sullivan of Petal; four daughters, Nell (Steven) Sewell of Oak Grove, Eloise (Johnny) Collier of Carriere, Inez Bryant of Moselle, Christy (Ray) Walters of Moselle; two sisters, Dorothy Guy of Glendale, Eddie Jo Smith of Ellisville; a brother, Ricky Courtney of Brooklyn; twenty-one grandchildren; and twenty-nine great-grandchildren. Visitation for Marvin will be 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. on Friday, October 16, 2020 at the Hattiesburg Chapel of Moore Funeral Home.
