Howard Dean Dowell

Howard Dean Dowell, "Poppa H", "Big H", "Poppa",57 of Stroudsburg passed away October 11, 2020. Born in Winston, North Carolina, Howard was the son of the late Oda Faye Dowell and Daniel Gray Dowell Sr. Howard was the Vice President of Moose Riders and a past Treasurer of the Moose Lodge 1336. He also belonged to the VFW and CLU Club. In addition to his father Howard is survived by his daughters Tara Dowell of Wilmington, North Carolina; Amber Hege of Florida; sons Tony Shaw of Rocky Mount, North Carolina; Cliff Van Why and wife Susan of Saylorsburg, Pennsylvania; David Van Why and wife Karie of Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Breana, Brandon and Christopher Van Why, Christopher Counterman, Sunshine Pugh, Marcella Raia, Heaven Stout, Teresa Stout, Tyler John Van Why, Casie Van Why; ex-wife Roxanne Dowell of Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania; brother Richard Dowell and wife Mary of San Antonio, Texas; James Naylor of Walkertown, North Carolina; sisters Kathy Dowell of King, North Carolina; Diane Tugman and husband James of Tobacco, North Carolina; June Sedoris of King, North Carolina; Darlene Jarrell and husband Michael of Winston, North Carolina. Howard is also survived by many friends who he considered family. In addition to his mother Oda, Howard was predeceased by his brother Daniel Gray Dowell Jr and sister Brenda Mabe. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations which will be sent to organizations such as Valor in Howard's name.
