Eleanor Elizabeth Robbins Obituary

Eleanor E. “Betty” Robbins, 98, of St. Joseph, passed away on Monday, October 12, 2020 at The Whitcomb Senior Living Community in St. Joseph. A Celebration of Life service will be held Monday, October 19, 2020 at 12 PM at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, with Pastor Steve Harten officiating. Out of respect for the family and guests in attendance, masks and social distancing will be required. Burial will follow at North Shore Memory Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to Peace Lutheran Church or Caring Circle. Those wishing to leave an online condolence may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. Betty was born July 1, 1922 in Eau Claire to Bruce & Helen (Moore) Glade. She spent her early years on her family’s farm where they grew a variety of fruits and vegetables. She graduated for Benton Harbor High School in 1940. On February 15, 1984, she married Jack Robbins in Las Vegas. In 1958, Betty began working as a Berrien County Welfare employee and continued holding this position through the merge with the State of Michigan, retiring in 1987. Betty enjoyed spending winters in Florida with her daily routine of drinking coffee in the morning and cocktails in the evenings on her dock. Whenever she was asked by her fellow neighbors if she wanted to join them for happy hour Betty was the first to eagerly accept. She was an avid fan of the University of Michigan and the Chicago Cubs. Until Betty was in her early 80’s, she could almost always be found out on the golf course playing a round of golf with her friends. At the end of each golf season Betty would take on the challenge of throwing the end of the season party for all her fellow golfers. Betty is survived by her daughters, Pat (Cliff) DeSchaaf, Joyce Marquardt and Jean (Robert) Cecil; grandchildren, Michael (Michelle) DeSchaaf, Jeff (Nicole) DeSchaaf, Aryn (Pedro) Del Valle, Justin (Alexis) Cecil, Benjamin Cecil; great-grandchildren, Otto, Kaia, Piper, Antonio, Cullan, Caelyn; and brother-in-law, Lee Wolff. Betty was preceded by her loving husband Jack; parents, Bruce and Helen; and siblings, George Glade, Joyce Wolff and Frank Glade.
