Robert Walter Sykes Mesa, Arizona Obituary

Robert Walter Sykes

MESA – On October 8, 2020, Robert Walter Sykes passed away peacefully at home at the age of 82. He is survived by his loving wife Mary (“Pat”) of 59 years, his children John Sykes, Susan Sykes, Sandra Zons and Robert (Carrie) Sykes, his four grandchildren Michael Zons, Heather Zons, Megan (Tyler) Willis and Brandon Schlaeger, a great-grand daughter Molly Willis, a brother Fred (Linda) Treven, a cousin Fred Borak and many relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and a loving stepfather John Treven. Born Robert Walter Czajkowski on February 18, 1938 in Kenosha, Wisconsin to Walter and Mary (Borak) Czajkowski, Bob spent the majority of his childhood in Kenosha and Waukegan (IL) where he served as an alterboy at St. George Catholic Church in Kenosha, played sand lot baseball and collected stamps & baseball cards as hobbies. He attended Waukegan High School and graduated from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1961 with a BA in Science. It was during his time at Marquette that he met the love of life – Mary Patricia (“Pat”) Monaghan. After he completed his military obligation, the two were married in December of 1961. Spending most of his career in the printing industry, he opened his own printing company which he ran until his retirement. Bob was a devout Catholic, a kind man with a quick wit, who lived and loved with all his heart and his greatest contributions to this World were definitely driven by his love of family. He volunteered as a little league coach. PTO president of his children's school and lector for his church. He loved his favorite companion, dog, Khloe, the Chicago Cubs, and music- even trying his hand at learning to play the guitar in his 70's. Growing up without a father, who died before he was born, Bob was a man people could depend on to care and be there and set an example on how to treat others. He taught his children to stand tall and strong and that everything would be okay. There are people in this world who give of themselves so freely . . . who pass on their time, talents, strength, and love so selflessly to others in their lives. Bob was a Good Man, a Good Father, a Good Example. Burial and memorial service will be on Saturday, December 19th at Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery in Mesa, Arizona. The family invites you to celebrate Bob’s life with them online at qohcfh.org. Please feel free to make a donation in Bob’s honor to ASPCA.org in lieu of flowers.
