Irene Genevieve Grinnell Lewistown, Montana Obituary

Irene Genevieve Grinnell

My loving mother, Irene Genevieve Redwood was born in Sultan, Washington on June 3rd, 1935; she was the first born to Clarence and Mabel Redwood and was eventually joined by six more siblings: Clare, Leonard, Marie, Merle, Alice and Verne.  After high school she married a widower, George Daniel Hahn, with three children all under the age of seven.  She loved and raised them and had a son of her own with her first husband.    George was a logger and his work took him away most of the week and left her to raise the children alone.  Eventually a heart attack left her husband unable to work at his career and with the three oldest children grown and gone from home; they moved to Montana and lived close to her sister, Alice.  Soon George passed away and she needed to find better work so she moved back to the Washington state.  She pursued several careers including: refurbishing houses for a realty company, landscaping, secretary for a paralegal, C.N.A., and did in house convalescent care.  She married again, but this marriage was cut short when her new husband suddenly passed away.    She eventually fell in love and married again.  This time with Pastor John Grinnell who eventually became "Grandpa John" to her grandchildren. They moved to Montana to be closer to her son, Tim and his family. They lived in a house across from the city park and enjoyed watching the people in the park play, the seasons change and the many deer that wandered by in front of the big picture window.  Eventually she lost her loving husband of 31 years and she was by herself again; but near her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She enjoyed our small town life, her grandchildren, her church friends, and getting around town on her electric scooter.  Mom passed away on October 11, 2020 at the age of 85.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Clare and Mabel Redwood; first husband, George Daniel Hahn; second husband, Lee Sutphen; third husband, John David Grinnell; step-children, Donny Hahn, Bob Hahn, Nina Hahn, and Michael Grinnell; brothers, Leonard, Clare, and Merle; and sisters, Alice and Marie.  She is survived by her son, Timothy (Debbie) Hahn; daughter, Janae' (Michael) Wailes; grandchildren, Stacy (Joel) Olson, Lisa (Casey) Graybill, Julie (Shane) Schulze, Jamie (Cullan) Curry, and Collette Grinnell; great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Weston, Wadon, Amanda, James, Paul, Chris, Michelle, Jeremy, and Kyle; brother, Verne (Lorna) Redwood; and numerous nieces and nephews.  A memorial service will be held at Celebration Community Fellowship on Saturday, October 17, 2020 at 11:00 a.m.  Inurnment will be at the Buffalo-Straw Cemetery.  Memorial donations can be made to the Cancer Support Group, c/o Medical Center Foundation.   Arrangements are under the care of Creel Funeral Home.
