Richard "Dick" Wayne Cosgrove Colorado Springs, Colorado Obituary

Richard "Dick" Wayne Cosgrove

Richard “Dick” Cosgrove, age 79, of Colorado Springs went home to be with the Lord on October 11, 2020 at 6:25pm after succumbing to Lewy Body Dementia. Dick was surrounded by his family and the love of that family as he passed. Dick was preceded in death by his wife of forty-five years, Sharon Cosgrove; his parents, George Arthur and Francesca Kamma Cosgrove; his brother, Glenn Cosgrove, and his sister-in-law, Roz Cosgrove. Dick leaves behind his daughter, Kelly Britton and her husband, Ralph; his son, Kevin Cosgrove and his wife, Pam; his son, Mark Cosgrove and his wife, Jennifer; his son, Christopher Cosgrove and his wife, Christine; and his daughter, Nicole Cosgrove. Dick leaves behind his nine grandchildren, Connor, Devon, Taylor, Sage, Kasey, Mara, Kory, Kelsey and Connor Lightfoot. He also leaves behind his ten great-grandchildren, Paisley, Haley, Ethan, Oliver, Lane, Henley, Drake, Harper, LJ, and Ivan. Dick leaves behind his brother, George Cosgrove and his wife, Willie; his brother, Ted Cosgrove and his wife, Linda; and his sister, Lynda Ochs; along with several nieces, nephews, and many friends. Dick was born on November 26, 1940 in Jersey City, New Jersey. He graduated from Boonton High School in 1958 before joining the Navy that same year. He proudly served our country from 1958-1962. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, Dick began a long and successful career at IBM followed by Lockheed Martin. Dick retired from the Aerospace Engineering field in 2002. He met Sharon in 1970 and they married on July 28, 1973. Both Dick and Sharon brought two children each to the marriage then had a child together. They began raising their family in Kentucky but moved to New Jersey and Virginia before settling in California in 1976 to raise their children. In 1990, Dick moved his family to Colorado Springs and resided here until his death. Dick enjoyed fishing with his best friend, Ed, and golfing with his sons, Mark and Chris. He enjoyed watching sports, both on TV and live, and shared a love for the Broncos, Avalanche and Rockies with his grandson, Connor. He loved being silly with his granddaughter, Sage, and was always up for funny-faced selfie with her. He spent many years coaching his son, Chris’s, and daughter, Nikki’s, soccer teams and that love of soccer spilled over to watching his granddaughters play the game. He spent countless evenings and weekends watching his granddaughters, Devon and Taylor, play high school and club soccer. Through all the sports and teams he was associated with, he made many friends that he had for well over forty years. He was a mentor to his players and a second father to so many of his children’s friends. After moving to Colorado, Dick began going to church and found an appreciation and love of the Lord. He attended several bible studies and men’s groups and the faith he gained helped him through some very hard times. His faith was one of the most important things he held on to as he mourned the loss of his wife and battled the disease that eventually took him from us. He just knew he was going somewhere better and never doubted what the Lord had planned for him. Dick will be greatly missed by all that knew him. His absence is a void that can never be filled but we take comfort in knowing that he is no longer in pain and more comfort in knowing he is with his beautiful wife, Sharon, and all his loved ones that were waiting to welcome him home. A private Memorial Service will be held at 2:00PM, Sunday, October 25, 2020. The service will be streamed live, the link to watch the Memorial Service is located on Richard's Tribute Wall on The Springs Funeral Services-North website. In lieu of flowers, his family would ask that memorial contributions in Dick's memory be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association (lbda.org)

Richard used to come to my softball games when I was a teenager. He used to keep score for our team and would make me so nervous that every ball that was hit to me on second base I would miss. Suddenly I would hear him yelling out from the stands E4, E4. He would always... Continue Reading

The Cosgrove’s have always been a close loving family. I am the only girl with four brothers. Growing up we never had many material things, but always had each other and all we needed, as our parents sacrificed many things to be sure we had the necessities. Dad worked 3 ... Continue Reading

I worked with Dick at Lockheed Martin, and had the greatest respect for him: character, humor, integrity. He was a gentleman and a friend to all who worked with him. Jan Bristol
