Verna Joan McGillivray, age 82, of Tompkins, SK, passed away on October 10, 2020 at the Gull Lake Special Care Centre. The funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. on October 16th from Tompkins Cemetery, with Reverend Eleanor Rockabar officiating. A grandchildren's tribute was written by Charisse Garland and the urn bearer was Dustin Cooke. Verna is survived by her son, Brian (Wanda) McGillivray, Courtney (Callum), Craig and Michael Rudolph; and daughter, Lynn (Bill) Cooke, Charisse (Scott) Garland, Lily and Emerson, Chantel (Lance) Esson and Dustin (Haylee) Cooke; brothers-in-law, Jim Wilson and Doug Rathwell; and numerous nieces and nephews. Verna was predeceased by her parents, Ivy and William Simpson; husband, Robby (Bob) McGillivray; sisters, Kathleen Rathwell and Dorothy Wilson; brother, Russell Simpson; and in-laws, Janet and William McGillivray; and numerous brothers and sisters in law. Verna was born at Tompkins, SK on May 1, 1938, and attended school at Tompkins. She married Robby (Bob) McGillivray on September 30, 1960 at Tompkins, SK. Verna worked at Traders Finance, D's Craft Barn, and Woody's Tavern. Verna also belonged to the Anglican Church Choir, the Community Choir, the ACW and was a Vestry Member. Verna loved softball and curling, and was a die-hard Calgary Flames/Stampeder fan. She enjoyed watching any sports her grandchildren were in, enjoyed playing cards and always had time for coffee at the seniors. Verna enjoyed socializing with friends, especially Friday night Schnapps at the neighbours or at her place. She was known for her delicious jelly rolls and bundt cakes. She liked to volunteer her time for whatever was going on in town - be it pies for the curling rink/skating rink, fowl suppers, or sheep sales.
