Paul Burba

 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Paul Burba at the age of 92. He passed away at Minnedosa Hospital on Saturday, October 10, 2020 after a brave struggle from a broken hip. Paul was born to Harry and Dora Burba on February 5, 1928 on the homestead where he spent his whole life (except one winter working in Winnipeg). Paul was predeceased by his parents, Harry and Dora; sister Tena Truszynski (John)/Borys (Joe), brother Bill and sister Mary in infancy, niece Linda Truszynski and great nephew Nicholas Truszynski and brother-in-law Richard O’Kopniak. Remaining to love and remember him forever are; his wife of 66 years Eileen; his sons: Doug (Judy) of Brandon, David (Joyce) of Brandon; daughter Lisa Franklin (Jerry Sherby) of Winnipeg; grand-son Gerald Burba of Winnipeg; grand-daughters: Stephanie Burba (Kyle) of Rivers, Jennifer Dupuis of Brandon, Tracy Davies (Scott) of Calgary, Wendy Villers (Russell) of Saskatoon, Kristen Burba (Dylan) of Regina; 4 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Hilde O’Kopniak (Toronto); 2 nieces and 3 nephews and their families.

Paul loved his family and was always there for support. Paul and Eileen worked hard to farm and raise and support their children and families throughout their lives. Paul was a kind and gentle person who always saw the best in people. His early years were spent trapping, hunting and hiking. Paul loved animals and had a lifelong interest in nature which he took pleasure sharing with others. He was quite artistic in his youth, with his wood carvings of birds and fish, which he would often trade with friends. When he began farming it not only became an occupation, it was his way of life, which he enjoyed well beyond retirement. He loved putting his garden in every year, even when walking became increasing difficult for him. He had a strong work ethic and sense of responsibility which carried him all through life. But now he is at rest and in the words of his nephew Ted, “we are sure he is enjoying a game of cards with his sister Tena and Joe now”.

A private service will be held at Rae’s Funeral Home in Shoal Lake, on Saturday, October 17th, with interment at Sandy Lake Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Paul may be made to the Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church in Sandy Lake or the Minnedosa Health Centre.
