Richard "Dick" F Slaymaker Obituary

Richard (Dick) Slaymaker, 79, of Rochester, Wa., beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully at home in the early morning hours of October 13, 2020. He met his final days with the love and support of his wife and family.

He was born to Charles E. and Margaret J. Slaymaker at the family home in Grand Mound (the prairie) Wa. on January 27, 1941.

Dick graduated from Rochester High School in 1959. In high school he played baseball and raised grand champion sheep as a member of FFA. Upon graduation he worked as a logger in Oregon. When his father became ill he moved back home and settled in Grand Mound with his wife and children and continued working as a logger.  Before retiring, he worked alongside his son Bo logging poles..

When not working in the woods, you could find him hauling bark, cutting firewood, coaching his kids in baseball, or watching his kids play sports. If he had to work on the weekend, his kids were with him. Dick loved his family, the Boston Red Sox and baseball with a passion. He taught his children by example the importance of keeping your word and a strong work ethic. He enjoyed raising cows and pigs. Dick loved taking loops in his restored ‘64 Buick Riviera. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and visiting with friends at Maytown and Littlerock Tavern.

Dick is survived by his wife Patricia and his children Robert “Bo” (Kris) Slaymaker of Rochester, Wa., Ted Slaymaker of Rochester, Wa., and Heidi (Tom) Stickler of Lincoln City, Ore.; stepsons Dennis, Travis, Nicholas and Christopher Astry; grandsons Charlie, Ben, Tim and Scott Slaymaker; granddaughters Jaymie and Jessica Hill and many great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Bobby, sister Betty, his late wife Linda, and great-granddaughter Harlie.

Dick was loved beyond measure by his family and will be dearly missed.

A graveside service will be held at Grand Mound Cemetery on October 24, 2020 at 1:00pm.
