On Sunday, October 11, Jeannette Marie Yonkovit passed away at the age of 69 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Jeannette was born in 1951 in Ludington to Alex and Jane Yonkovit. She spent her career working at Michigan Bell, Ameritech, and AT&T. Over the course of her career, she made numerous life long friends and acquaintances. In 1976 she gave birth to her son Matthew. Jeannette will be remembered for her compassion, generosity, and empathy for others. Her strong faith in God and His good works drove her to constantly pray for those around her. She always put others' needs in front of her own. Even in her last weeks, her thoughts and prayers were not for herself but for the nurses and caregivers at the hospital, keeping lists of their needs and situations so she could pray for them. Strong-willed and rooted in her beliefs, she never backed down from a good discussion or wavered from her principles. She was a mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Jeannette was preceded in death by her father, Alex, her mother Jane, her brother Tom, and her nephew Peter. She is survived by her son Matt, his wife Jessica, and their daughter Carly, and her brother Peter Yonkovit (Patricia), and sisters Kathy Vander Weg and Anne (Mike) Bonczyk. Jeannette will be laid to rest at Holy Cross Cemetery. She requested that in lieu of funeral there be a celebration of life and a remembrance of her family and friends that preceded her when larger gatherings are allowed. Instead of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Arrangements have been entrusted to Simply Cremations in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
