June Donaldson Obituary

June (Sciuchetti) Donaldson (85) of Lewistown passed away peacefully of natural causes at Central Montana Medical Center with her daughter Lynn by her side on October 10, 2020—five months after losing her beloved husband of 54 years, Harold, to complications from a fall. A joint memorial service will be held for the couple at the Denton Town Hall on June 23, 2021 at 11:00 AM with a luncheon immediately following.  Born on August 20, 1935 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Lewistown to John B. & Antionette “Neddy” (Wipfli) Sciuchetti, “Junie,” as she was called when she was young, was the second of five children.  Bubbling with life, vitality, and curiosity, she was a beautiful and mischievous child loved by many—especially her siblings and cousins.   June’s rich and happy life anchored in Central Montana exemplifies the adage, “Bloom where you’re planted.” She was extremely proud to be a native of Fergus County and always got a kick out of showing it off to visitors and newcomers. June had her priorities straight and valued TIME with family, close friends and community members above all else. She loved connecting with people of all ages and backgrounds and hearing stories, and she specialized in making everyone she encountered feel good about themselves. June was highly entertaining and nurturing, an excellent cook and storyteller—the consummate, vivacious Italian hostess!  Knowing her was a gift; she is dearly missed by many.  June spent her early years in Lewistown lovingly surrounded by several generations of close-knit family and friends. She attended 3rd –8th grade in Great Falls at St. Thomas Catholic School before her parents settled on a ranch near Kolin.  June worked extremely hard on the ranch until 1961, when she accepted a job in the office at the Lewistown Creamery. June loved working in Lewistown at the Creamery…and later, as a grocery checker at Lewistown Supermarket and Rahn’s Food Center—a job that suited her outgoing & bubbly personality perfectly. She met the love of her life, Harold Donaldson, while checking at Lewistown Supermarket.  June & Harold married on January 16, 1967. After eloping to Coeur d’ Alene, ID, the couple embarked on an adventurous two-month honeymoon down the west coast and throughout the southwest before settling in a small apartment above Redman’s Hardware Store in Denton. In 1969, they purchased the Goettle place east of Denton, where they farmed until moving to Lewistown in 2018.  June absolutely loved being the wife of a farmer and working side-by-side with Harold. She fed cows, hauled water, fenced, drove grain truck, did all the books, washed, folded & pressed clothes, kept her house neat as a pin, worked the trees, mowed the lawn, and always managed to put three delicious—and often rather elaborate—meals on the table each day.  She was also an inventive and accomplished seamstress, preferring to cut her own fashionable styles rather than use patterns. She was also a talented knitter and master baker, constantly whipping up cakes, pies, cookies, maple bars, fresh bread and rolls for the people she loved.  She frequently hosted family and friends for coffee and supper; no one ever went away from her house hungry!  On June 27, 1970, June and Harold were blessed with a baby daughter they named Lynn Rae. Extremely patient, devoted, creative and FUN, June was perfectly suited for motherhood. She absolutely showered her little daughter with love and attention, and she made every day of Lynn’s life feel like a birthday party. She enjoyed decorating and making her home and yard a cheerful showplace that shined. She raised Lynn to be confident and adventurous and allowed her to travel the world in a way that June had only dreamed of.   For June, the only role that trumped Mother was Grandmother, and WOW was she good at it! Her greatest joy was spending time with Charlie, Chase & Ben, who adored and loved their Grandma June as much as she loved them.   A very spiritual woman with a deep and lifelong faith in God, June was a member of the United Methodist Church of Denton. She is survived by daughter, Lynn (Dan) Vermillion of Livingston and their children: Charlie, Chase, & Ben Vermillion; brother, Bill (Vicky) Sciuchetti of Lewistown; sister-in-law, Sharon Sciuchetti of Lewistown; sister-in-law, Coralie Sciuchetti of Billings & Yuma, AZ; brother-in-law, Rick Letz of Big Timber; and brother-in-law, Howard Donaldson of Denton. She will be remembered fondly by two generations of nieces and nephews.  She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold; sister, Lila Letz; and brothers, Joe and John Sciuchetti.  A heartfelt THANK YOU to all of the kind and generous memorials that have been made in June’s honor to the Denton Ambulance Fund and Eagle’s Manor.   Arrangements for the Memorial Service, Wednesday, June 23rd, 11:00 a.m. at the Denton Town Hall, with luncheon to immediately follow, are under the care of Creel Funeral Home; cremation has taken place.  Please share memories and condolences at www.creelfunerlahome.com
