Ann Frances Koranda Obituary

“It’s the start of a journey to a much better place. And a much better place would have to be special. No reason to cry. No need to be sad.” (The End of the End, Paul McCartney) “Celebrate the happy times,” Ann insisted. She had the most memorable happy times with her wonderful children and husband. “We were so close,” Ann said of her family, “and nothing could ever replace that. I’m happy!” Ann Koranda (Frederickson) passed peacefully on October 8, 2020, after a quiet but courageous 3-year battle with cancer. Her adoring husband Tom was at her side, holding her hand. Her children and sisters said their goodbyes while she smiled and gave a “thumbs up.” Her incredible sense of humor and quick wit shined through to the end, with no sadness and no tears. Tom Koranda and Ann met and fell in love at DePaul University, where Ann earned two Bachelor’s degrees (Liberal Arts/Music Theory) and a Master’s degree (Piano Performance). Ann’s greatest achievements were her creative and kind children, Ryan, Jonathan, and Caroline. She is also survived by generous and devoted parents, Robert Frederickson and Frances Garcia Frederickson (departed), and loving sisters Cathy, Terese, and Pat Frederickson (Geoff Amann). She was very happily a Mom, first and foremost, and an educator by profession. Most notably, she enjoyed a long career as a respected adjunct professor at Moraine Valley Community College (MVCC), Fine Arts and Humanities, and performed with the Southwest Symphony Orchestra (violin). Ann had also played violin with the Kankakee Valley Symphony Orchestra and was the music director at Saint Irenaeus Catholic Church, in addition to providing liturgical music for many churches throughout Chicagoland. Ann’s wish was that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the MVCC Foundation at 9000 W. College Parkway, Palos Hills, IL 60467 with a memo that the donation is for the Ann Koranda Memorial Scholarship for Fine Arts and Humanities. .
