Norman A. Bradbury, Jr.

SKANDIA, MI – Norman Archie Bradbury, Jr., age 77, of Skandia, passed away Sunday, October 4, 2020, at his home, in the loving care of his family. Born August 2, 1943, in Kokomo, Indiana, a son of Norman and Florence (Frye) Bradbury, Sr., Norman was raised in Kokomo until the family moved to L’Anse when he was in high school. He graduated from L’Anse High School, Class of 1962. Norman enrolled at Northern Michigan University where he earned his Bachelors Degree in Sociology. He later served in the US Navy as an EEG technician at the Naval hospital in Philadelphia. Following his honorable discharge, Norman was employed with the Ishpeming Police Department for a brief time before employment with the Marquette Branch Prison as a corrections officer. He completed his career in corrections at the Jackson State Prison, in Lower Michigan, from where he retired. In his leisure moments, Norman enjoyed studying religion, earning the nickname “Philo”, was an avid reader and writer, and was an avid Texas Hold’em player like his mother. He enjoyed mentoring his children and loved sharing his many interests with them. Norman is survived by his former wife and mother of his children, Elizabeth Franklin; his children, Kitty (Donald) Anderson of Gwinn, Norman Bradbury III of Skandia, and Gregory (Jessica) Franklin of Gwinn; his grandchildren, James Gallant Jr., Justin Gallant, Mary (Joel) Anderson, Mellissa Ellis, Kira (Jake) Barrett, Benjamin Helton, Patrick Helton, Norman Bradbury IV, Garret Franklin, Grace Franklin, Elizabeth Franklin, Zachary Franklin; seven great-grandchildren; brothers, David Bradbury of Marquette and Richard Bradbury; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Norman was preceded in death by a grandson, Louis Bradbury; and a brother, John Bradbury. Family services will be held at a later date.
