Joseph Van Strickland, age 66, of Douglas, Georgia passed away on Friday, October 9, 2020, at St. Vincent's Hospital. Mr. Strickland was born on July 24, 1954, in Douglas, GA to Michael "Pete"  Strickland and Bertha Paulk  Strickland.

Mr. Strickland was a retired truck maintenance technician at Walmart Distribution Center-Douglas, where he served for over 30 years.

Survivors include: Wife, Rose Mary Cook  Strickland of Douglas, GA, Daughter, Lisa (Daren) Folsom of Douglas, GA, Son, Joseph "Joey" Strickland of Douglas, GA, Brother, Danny (Lucretia) Strickland of Douglas, GA, Brother, Jimmy (Jenny) Spivey of Douglas, GA, Grandchildren, Donavan Folsom of Douglas, GA, Rayleigh Strickland of Hazlehurst, GA, along with several nieces and nephews. Preceded by: Father, Michael "Pete" Strickland; Mother, Bertha Paulk Strickland; Lois Spivey Strickland; Two Brothers, Michael Carroll Strickland, Danny Spivey; .

The family will receive friends Monday, October 12, 2020 from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Sims Funeral Home. 

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at 2:00 pm Antioch Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery with  Steve Sirmans, President Rodney Peterson, and Tony Roberson officiating.

Due to COVID-19, Sims Funeral Home Inc. will require all guests and attendees to wear appropriate medical grade face-masks and maintain social distancing at all times while visiting our facility, and highly encouraged at our services outside of our facility.  Masks are not provided.
