Donna Heather Ashford Dartmouth It is with great sadness, that we the family announce the passing of Donna Heather Ashford, at the age of 72, peacefully at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital with her two daughters by her side. Donna was born in Halifax NS to the late Donald Ashford, Harbour Breton Newfoundland and Gladys (Gray) Ashford Sambro, NS. Mom had a love of music like no other. Piano was her passion and later upgraded to keyboards that she loved to play and entertain anyone that was around. Donna is survived by her mother Gladys, with whom she had a very special mother daughter bond; her daughters Heather (Bernie Somerton) and Sara-Jane. Nana is survived by her three grandchildren Kris, Faith and Jacob whom she loved and adored so much. Donna is also survived by her sister Nancy (Lee Spicer), niece Christa and nephew Craig (Julie) and their children Rachel and Eric. Donna was predeceased by her father Donald, whom she loved dearly. A special celebration of life will be held Wednesday October 14th at 3pm at TJ Traceys in Glace Bay. On Sunday Oct. 18 at 2 p.m. a graveside memorial service will be held at William Black Memorial Cemetery, Glen Margaret, NS followed by a reception at William Black United Church. Thank you to so many of the staff on 4C and 3A as well as the hospitalists’ doctors that looked after mom during her time at the hospital. A very special thanks to the An Cala Palliative Care Unit who took special care of us and mom in her last days. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the heart and stroke foundation.
