Ernest Woodley Jr., peacefully transitioned to eternity with his best friend, Jesus, on October 10, 2020 at his home in Newport News, Virginia. Ernest was born on January 24, 1941 in Newport News, Virginia to the late Ernest Woodley Sr., and Beulah Woodley.

 

He was raised in Newport News, Virginia where he attended Carver High School. Ernest attended New Grafton Baptist Church as a child. He was a lover of God and one who loved everybody. He would lend a helping hand where ever there was a need. His favorite Bible quotes were “God will never leave you, nor for sake you.” and “No weapon formed against you shall prosper.” Ernest was known for his famous sayings: “I can’t say too much” and “Something in the milk ain’t clean”.

 

Ernest was funny and also serious at times. He was a hard worker. He worked at Riverside for 42 years and 9 months. It was one of his greatest accomplishments. Ernest loved football and his favorite team was Redskins. He loved singing in contests and he was a great dancer as well. He once was a DJ in his younger days. Ernest was giving, loving, a good listener and a man of wisdom and wise counsel with a contagious smile. Most of all he loved his family and was especially proud of his children’s successes and for them sticking together.

 

Ernest was proceeded in death by his parents, son, Gregory Woodley; brother, Harry Woodley; sister, Augusta Jones.

 

He leaves to cherish his memories: his devoted wife, Lucille Woodley; 3 sons; Sylvester (Bus) Woodley-Winter Garden, Florida, Ernest B. Woodley and Todd Woodley- Newport News, Virginia. One and only daughter, Kim Woodley Williams and  son in law, Lorenzo Williams of Newport News, Virginia; 6 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 3 sisters; Delois Lee, Marie Cooper and Betty Woodley; 6 sisters in law, 1 brother in law and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

 

Viewing for Mr. Woodley will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., Friday, October 16, 2020 at C.C. Carter Funeral Home, Inc.

 

Services for Mr. Woodley will be held noon  Saturday, October 17, 2020 at New Hope Baptist Church by Dr. Christopher C. Carter, Sr.

 

Mask are required for entry into the funeral home and the church. Social Distancing practices will be followed.

 

Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park.

 

It is the desire of the Woodley family that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
