<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family:georgia,serif;"><span style="font-size:16px;">Mrs. Shirley Diane Johnston of Milk River, beloved wife of the late Mr. Charles Johnston, passed away with her loving family by her side at the Milk River Health Centre, on Friday, October 9, 2020, at the age of 79 years.</span></span></p> <p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family:georgia,serif;"><span style="font-size:16px;">Shirley is survived by 3 daughters, Agnes (Russell) Dobrocane of Milk River, Irene (Roy) Marceniuk of Bonnyville, Betty (Jason Childs) Graham of Medicine Hat; 1 son, Robert (Linda) Johnston of Milk River; grandchildren, C.J. and Kristin Dobrocane, Kayla and Kurtis Marceniuk, Mathew and Hayley (David) Graham, Dayton Johnston, and Brooke (Brian) Ferguson; sisters, Betty (Mike) Owens and Joanne (Morris) Sosick.</span></span></p> <p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family:georgia,serif;"><span style="font-size:16px;">Besides her loving husband Charles, Shirley was predeceased by her parents, John and Agnes Popel and brother Jonnie Popel.</span></span></p> <p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family:georgia,serif;"><span style="font-size:16px;">Shirley was the eldest daughter born to John and Agnes Popel. She attended school from grades 1-6 in Winnifred and grades 7-12 at Gershaw High School in Bow Island. She went on to graduate from Nursing Aide School in Calgary, and then worked in Claresholm and Taber before moving to Milk River to work at Border Countries General Hospital. There she met the love of her life, Charles Johnston. After getting married, Shirley dedicated her time to being a full-time mother and housewife.</span></span></p> <p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family:georgia,serif;"><span style="font-size:16px;">Some of Shirley&rsquo;s simple pleasures were working on the farm, gardening, cooking, baking and Scrabble. She enjoyed attending school events for her children and grandchildren, such as school plays, sporting events, theatre and many others. Mrs. Shirley Diane Johnston of Milk River, beloved wife of the late Mr. Charles Johnston, passed away with her loving family by her side at the Milk River Health Centre, on Friday, October 9, 2020, at the age of 79 years.

Shirley is survived by 3 daughters, Agnes (Russell) Dobrocane of Milk River, Irene (Roy) Marceniuk of Bonnyville, Betty (Jason Childs) Graham of Medicine Hat; 1 son, Robert (Linda) Johnston of Milk River; grandchildren, C.J. and Kristin Dobrocane, Kayla and Kurtis Marceniuk, Mathew and Hayley (David) Graham, Dayton Johnston, and Brooke (Brian) Ferguson; sisters, Betty (Mike) Owens and Joanne (Morris) Sosick.

Besides her loving husband Charles, Shirley was predeceased by her parents, John and Agnes Popel and brother Jonnie Popel.

Some of Shirley’s simple pleasures were working on the farm, gardening, cooking, baking and Scrabble. She enjoyed attending school events for her children and grandchildren, such as school plays, sporting events, theatre and many others. In her spare time, Shirley loved to sew, read, knit, bowl, have coffee with friends and neighbors, and complete any puzzle she could find.

A private family service will be held at 10:00 am, on Friday, October 16, 2020.
