George Neustadt Spanaway, Washington Obituary

George Neustadt

George Neustadt, 90, passed away on October 5th, 2020, in Tacoma, WA, from Covid-19 complications. George was born in the Bronx, NY to Hugo and Jeanette (Grassgreen) Neustadt. He was a Korean War veteran who drove supplies for our troops to the front lines of the war. George was driving a taxi when he met Shirley Bernstein and married her. George worked for the US post office living in Brooklyn, NY until he moved his family to Peekskill, NY, and started his own candy and tobacco wholesale business. He and Shirley rarely took vacations but loved going to the NYC, seeing plays, movies, clothes shopping, and trying new restaurants. He and Shirley retired to Las Vegas, NV for 14 years; then moved to Tacoma, WA. George loved playing pinochle with his senior friends. He was an avid reader, sometimes reading anywhere from 10-20 books a month. He never left the house without a book (hardcover) in his hand. He loved watching TV and old movies with his son, Lewis when he lived in NV. When his daughter was teaching about the rain forest, he showed up dressed in rain gear, hat and umbrella to the children's delight. He often dropped in for special science units. George was a dedicated husband, father, and the family will deeply miss him. He is survived by his immediate family, son Lewis and wife, Linda Neustadt; his daughter, Ann Hansen; his grandchildren, Michelle and Ken Kardon; Jennifer Hansen and fiancé, Neila Stinehart; and his great granddaughter, Kendall Kardon. We know he is with his beloved wife, Shirley (1926-2014) and his grandson, Michael Neustadt (1979-2018). We miss you, Poppy.
