Jean Tobin Obituary

TOBIN, Jean Marie (nee O’Keefe) - Passed peacefully away in the presence of her loving and appreciative family on October 9th, 2020, Jean Tobin at age 66. Jean was predeceased by her parents: Mike and Mary O’Keefe (Condon); her infant brother Michael; her sister Doris Kenny; brother-in-law Bob Kenny; and parents-in-law Pierre and Elizabeth Tobin (Taplin). Leaving to mourn are her loving and devoted husband Perry; daughters: Jennifer (Mike), Amy and Laura; grandchildren: Spencer, Grace, and Sophia Browne; sister Blanche McCarthy (Kieran) and their family; sisters-in-law: Marie Webster (Norm), Judy Barry (John), Barbara Ledwell (Ernest), Ruth Clarke (Tommy), Lulu Tobin (Wendell), and Carolanne Tobin (George); brothers-in-law: Bob (Marilyn), and Fabian (Benny); special niece and nephews: Suzanne Kenny (Dave), Michael Kenny (Sam) and Robert Kenny; best friend Trudy Harte; as well as many other nieces, nephews and very close friends. Jean started a long and rewarding teaching career in Fleur de Lys in 1974. She held teaching positions in a number of schools before moving to St. Kevin’s in Goulds. She had various roles at St. Kevin’s over a period of 25 years and found each of them rewarding and fulfilling. Jean adored her children and grandchildren. She took interest and pride in everything they did and accomplished while assisting them in no small way in achieving those accomplishments. She was a talented, humble, kind and selfless person who enjoyed being with her friends but who could also spend hours in her own company designing and producing beautiful quilts. Her list of favourite things included sewing, playing cards and going for weekends with her best buddies, gardening, walking, watching British drama, doing Sudoku, Tim Hortons coffee, everything to do with Christmas, and meticulously cleaning house. She loved life and fought bravely for more time in order to spare her loved ones sorrow, to do more of the things she enjoyed and to see new places. Her passing has saddened her family and friends deeply but memories of her will be cherished forever and will provide the nourishment to help heal that sadness. God bless you and reward you Jean with the peace you so much deserve. Many thanks to Dr. Mark Porter, Dr. Stewart Rorke, Dr. Gavioli, Dr. Louise Rogers, and the other doctors, nurses, paramedics and staff at Health Sciences Centre and Palliative Care Unit for your care of Jean over the past several months. Finally, thank you to Sr. Monica Hickey and Father Melvin for being with us in Jean’s final moments. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place from Barrett’s Funeral Home, 73 Commonwealth Avenue, Mt. Pearl from 2:00 - 9:00 on Monday, October 12, 2020 with funeral service to follow at St. Kevin’s Roman Catholic Church in Goulds by invitation only on Tuesday, October 13 at 10:00 AM.
