Angelina Pedroso Obituary

Doctora Angelina Pedroso was called home at 90 years of age on Wednesday, October 7, 2020. Dr. Pedroso was preceded in death by her late husband, Dr. Aldo Pedroso, and youngest son Daniel Pedroso, leaving behind her loving son, Aldo Pedroso, and three glorious grandchildren, Morgan, Sofia, and Isabela. She also leaves behind Flora Llacuna, whom she affectionately considered her one and only daughter. “Doctora” was a trailblazing woman that devoted her life to helping others. Dr. Pedroso began her career as a lawyer, graduating from the University of Havana in Cuba with her Doctor of Law Degree, LL.D. in Civil and Criminal Law. She later emigrated to the United States attended Chicago State University and Loyola University, eventually starting a new career in higher education as a Professor of Foreign Languages and Literature (Spanish). After a 44 year career of dedicated undying devoted service to Northeastern Illinois University, students, and the community, she retired in 2009. In 2011, the university then created and dedicated the Angelina Pedroso Center for Diversity and Intercultural Affairs (APCDIA) after the person who most represented the values and mission for which it stood. “Doctora” will always be remembered for using her keen analytical and legal skills with her witty humor and charming personality-becoming, an influential powerhouse advocating for her students, a cause, or anyone who needed her help during her career as a Professor. Throughout the trajectory of her earthly journey, she had learned the importance of preparation and education, and she dedicated her life to passing this message to every single student she had met in her life. Therefore, while she officially taught Spanish as a Professor at NEIU during her tenure, she was mentoring, educating, advocating, and serving any student or community member that sought her assistance. She was the epitome of the ultimate mentor. She was always teaching. She peppered her formal classroom lessons with inspirational and invaluable life lessons. She shared pearls of wisdom during class, during extended office hours, in the elevators, and while she walked the university hallways. She delivered countless keynote addresses throughout her career, spreading her inspirational message and positive impact far and wide. “Doctora” was a living guardian angel for countless individuals during times of crisis. In recent years, when asked how she was doing, her reply was simple. With a smile, she’d say, ”Every day is a gift.” “Doctora” has now shed the confines of her earthbound body and entered the Kingdom of God, where she will serve as an eternal Guardian Angel for those who love and need her. Let us always remember the lessons she taught us and the gift she was in our lives. The family deeply appreciates your expression of sympathy. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org.
