Obituary
Townshend- Harold L. “Howie” Howe, Sr., 70, of Grafton Road in Townsend, a lifelong resident of the area, died Wednesday morning, October 7, 2020 at Grace Cottage Hospital following a period of declining health. Harold was born in Brattleboro on May 19, 1950, the son of Harold B. and Mildred Frances (Hill) Howe. He was raised and educated in Brattleboro and was a graduate of Brattleboro Union High School. He had been employed for many years at the former BookPress on Putney Road up until the company closed. He later worked at the Price Chopper Market on Upper Canal Street. Harold was a member of West Brattleboro Baptist Church and was an honorary member of the V.F.W. Carl M. Dessaint Post #1034. Of his pastimes and interests he enjoyed bowling, playing miniature golf, working with his wife at the VFW dinners and playing BINGO. On October 30, 1982 in Brattleboro he was married to Kathleen McLay. His devoted wife of 24 years predeceased him on January 18, 2007. Survivors include three sons, Michael Howe, Harold Howe, Jr., and Tim Howe, all of Brattleboro; step-son, Michael James Hurd and step-daughter, MJ Lunsman, both of Aberdeen, South Dakota; one brother, Rodney Howe of Brattleboro and several nieces and nephews. Graveside committal services will be conducted in Meetinghouse Hill Cemetery on Thursday, October 15th at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Steve McClelland of West Brattleboro Baptist Church officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Harold’s name may be made to West Brattleboro Baptist Church, 979 Western Avenue, Brattleboro, VT 05301.
