<p><br /> Dexter James Bright was born on July 8, 1973 in Newark, NJ to James and Yvonne Bright.&nbsp; He departed this world on October 6, 2020.Dexter attended Newark Public Schools and graduated from Barringer High School.&nbsp; He was a Newark Special Police Officer before becoming a regular Newark Police Officer in 2001.&nbsp; His assignments included the Traffic Section, Motorcycle Unit, and patrol assignments in the 3rd and 5th Precincts.&nbsp;&nbsp; Most recently Dexter was assigned to the Outside Employment Unit. Dexter received many awards for valor and professionalism his latest was received May of 2019 . Dexter always had a joking spirit and giving heart.</p> <p><br /> Dexter proclaimed his faith in Al-Islam at Masjid Imam Ali K. Muslim in Newark and took the name &ldquo;Shahid&rdquo;.&nbsp; He was a member of Samson Lodge #66 Free&amp; Accepted Masons Prince Hall Affiliated, and the Newark Police Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 12.<br /> &nbsp;<br /> Dexter loved his family and friends dearly. He leaves to cherish in his memory his parents James and Yvonne Bright, siblings Michael (Marilyn) Bright, Jennifer Bright and sister-in law Cathy Bullock, niece Janelle Bright, nephew Zachary Bright and a host of loving friends and relatives.</p> <p>Dexter joins his family that predeceased him: his grandparents Sampson &amp; Norine Bright and Richard &amp; Doza Rodwell and brother William Stuart Bullock Jr..</p> <p>&nbsp;</p>

Dexter James Bright was born on July 8, 1973 in Newark, NJ to James and Yvonne Bright.  He departed this world on October 6, 2020.Dexter attended Newark Public Schools and graduated from Barringer High School.  He was a Newark Special Police Officer before becoming a regular Newark Police Officer in 2001.  His assignments included the Traffic Section, Motorcycle Unit, and patrol assignments in the 3rd and 5th Precincts.   Most recently Dexter was assigned to the Outside Employment Unit.
