Pelkie Bernie L. Walker, 82, a resident of Pelkie, passed away Monday, October 5, 2020 at Bayside Village in L’Anse where he had been a resident since this past summer. Bernie was born on May 4, 1938 in Mason, MI to the late Enock and Mildred (Cole) Walker. He was raised and had gone to school in Mason. Following school, Bernie began working as a truck driver and laborer before beginning his career as an iron worker where he remained for 50 years. He married the former Verna Suojonen. She preceded him in death. Bernie moved to Pelkie and was a member of the Otter Lake Sportman’s Club. He enjoyed fishing and bartending for Dinosaur Days. He was also a member of the Iron Worker’s Local 25 and 426 out of Novi. Besides his wife, Bernie was preceded in death by a brother, Norman and 2 sisters, Bonnie and Shirley. He is survived by step-daughter, Linda (David) Brooks of Laingsburg, MI His grandchildren 1 sister, Joann of Lower MI close friend David Paavola of Pelkie and many other friends who will greatly miss him.
