Marion Austin Scott

<p>&ldquo;Scotty&rdquo;, Marion Austin Scott Sr, 87, passed away on October 6, 2020.&nbsp; He was born to the late, Bertie Austin and Marian Pitts Scott in Greenville, South Carolina. &nbsp;&nbsp;Though Austin was a native of South Carolina, he was an educator in Brevard County for nearly 40 years.&nbsp; Austin earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Music Education from The University of Georgia and Master of Music in Performance from The University of South Florida.&nbsp; He was in many Professional affiliations such as Phi Beta Mu, Phi Mu Alpha, ASBDA, MENC, NAJE, CBDNA, FMEA, He has been active in the Florida Bandmaster&rsquo;s Association and also served on the FBA Stage Band Committee. He founded the Brevard Community Band of Brevard that was awarded the Sudler Silver Scroll Award by the John Philip Sousa Foundation in 1999, North America&rsquo;s most prestigious award for community concert bands.&nbsp; He was also a member of the Gateway Lodge in Mims. From 1959 to 1965 he served as Band Director at Southwest Junior High School in Melbourne.&nbsp; In 1965 he founded The Merritt Island High School Band when the school opened and directed the group until 1975. He retired as Director of Bands in Music Education from BCC now Eastern Florida State College in 1999.&nbsp; &nbsp;He was well respected and admired in the music industry.&nbsp; He played with many name bands such as Harry James Orchestra, Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra, Tex Beneke Orchestra, Sammy Kaye Orchestra, Terry Myers Benny Goodman tribute Orchestra, Sanford Jazz Ensemble and Space Coast Swing Ensemble.&nbsp; Austin loved Jazz and it has been a part of his life since he was very young. &nbsp;He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson Motorcycles with his friends. He loved his community and always had a purpose of &ldquo;giving back&rdquo;. He loved his children and enjoyed his family time spent with them.&nbsp;</p> <p>Austin was survived by his children: Marion A. Scott Jr &ldquo;Sonny&rdquo; (Sharon), Melissa Scott Mays (Thadd), Michael Patrick Scott (Laurie) and Rebecca Scott Moran (Jim); Grandchildren: Christopher Scott Coward, Brantlee Elaine Coward, Daniel Austin Scott, Sean Michael Scott, Mason Oliver Scott, Ryan Michael Scott, Katie Noelle Scott, Grant Austin Scott, Joshua Patrick Moody and Carson Elaine Moody; Great Grandchildren: Caden Coward, Corbin Coward, Arabella Scott and Lexie Scott; Dogs: Lola and Jasmine.</p> <p>There are no services scheduled here in Titusville at this time. There are other funeral arrangements being made in South Carolina. The family has requested that you consider in lieu of flowers to make a donation to: Community Band of Brevard, P.O.
