Joseph John Carvalho June 3, 1928 - May 22, 2017 Joseph “Joe” John Carvalho, age 88, of Hacienda Heights, California, passed away at home on May 22, 2017 with his family surrounding him in love. Joe was born on June 3, 1928 in Tiverton, Rhode Island, and grew up in North Dighton, Massachusetts. He was the proud son of Jose (Gramps) and Anna Carvalho. His siblings include his sisters, Mary Rita, Alice, & Natalie and his brothers, Robert (Bobby), Gerard, David and Dennis. Joe faithfully served in the US Navy for two years. He obtained the rank of Engineman 3rd Class while working in a POW camp during World War II. In 1951, he enrolled at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy where he received his degree in Marine Engineering. He served with the Merchant Marines for an additional two years. Joe married the love of his life, Audrey Enos on November 21, 1953. They moved to California and began expanding their family. Soon came children Catherine, Cynthia (Gene Lucas), Barry (Sue Collamore), Pamela, and Janet (Dennis Willard). He worked for the Department of Water and Power for 33 years as an electrical engineer. At age 55 he retired and began working for the 1984 Olympic Organizing Committee while also maintaining his own real estate business aptly named: Carvalho Company. He was a founding member of St. John Vianney Parish and dedicated Usher and volunteer. Joe was a die-hard Red Sox fan, watching every game possible on TV and in person. His greatest joy was his family. He became forever known as “Poppi” when his family grew to include grandchildren, Danielle (Matt Massari), Tara, Nicole, Hope and Brennan, and great grandchildren Emma & Quinn Massari. Services for Joe include a Rosary on Thursday, May 25th, 2017 at 8pm and Funeral Mass on Friday, May 26th, 2017 at 10am, both held at St. John Vianney Parrish in Hacienda Heights, California. Burial will be held at Riverside National Cemetery on Tuesday, May 30th at 2pm.
