Victor Alphonse Grimard Obituary

GRIMARD – Victor

1950 – 2020

Sadly, Victor Alphonse Grimard passed away on Monday, October 5, 2020 at the age of 70. Victor was born on March 7, 1950, and celebrated his 70th birthday this year. He was the oldest of 11 children born to Hector and Grace Grimard.

Victor left school at a young age to help his father on the farm. That wasn’t unusual during those days when manual labor was required to make a living on a farm. He worked in the fields, fed the animals, and milked the cows in addition to the many other tasks required during those times. The days work started early and ended late.

Later, his dad retired, and Victor started to farm on his own; running cattle and grain on his grandpa McNeilty’s homestead. At this time, he moved an old shed to the homestead and this became his new home which he enjoyed for many years. Victor never married so his socializing consisted of visiting family, neighbors, and helping wherever needed.

Only one year ago Victor gave up living in his little shack with wood heat. He bought a brand new 40-ft trailer with brand new appliances and a propane heater. He so enjoyed his new place with running water and an indoor washroom. He often mentioned how nice it was to come home to a warm house.

Victor enjoyed gardening, picking berries as well as pickling carrots and beets. Victor enjoyed hauling grain for Richard Dumais, but what he enjoyed, even more, was Donna’s cooking! He would give more details about the meals he ate than what the crops were yielding. Victor enjoyed going into town, getting the mail and delivering it out to the farm, then checking to see if there was anything he could help with. He was someone you could always count on and was a kind, generous man. He loved to visit, especially family gatherings where he could meet and greet, catch up on how everyone was doing, have a few laughs, and a good visit with everyone.

As a big brother to 10 siblings and an “Uncle Victor” to many nieces and nephews, he will be dearly missed. You will not be forgotten Victor and we will always cherish our memories of you.

Victor is lovingly survived by his siblings: Alice (Ron) Joseph of Debden, SK,  Leo Grimard of Debden, SK,  Leon Grimard (Virginia Maxinuk) of Boyle, AB,  Aline (Terry) Hugo of Alysham, SK,  Louise (Donald Couture) Grimard of Debden, SK,  Laurette (Don) Thompson of Waldheim, SK,  Diane (Ron West) Grimard of Prince Albert, SK; his aunt - Ruby Ballantyne of Prince Albert, SK;  his uncle - Raymond Grimard of Shellbrook, SK; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Victor was predeceased by, his parents, Grace & Hector Grimard; his brothers, Paul Grimard, Luc Grimard, and Rolland Grimard; his grandparents, Alphonse & Antoinette Grimard & Edith and James McNeilty.

There was a Graveside Service held for Victor on Saturday, October 10, 2020, in the Debden Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. with Delores Beaulac officiating. In lieu of tributes, memorial donations may be made in memory of Victor to the Canadian Diabetes Association or to the Canadian Cancer Society.
