Jessie Lynn Hicks Obituary

Jessie Lynn Hicks, 59, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on October 4, 2020, in Gig Harbor - her home of nearly 20 years. She left us after a 2-year battle with colon cancer. Jessie exemplified love of family and friends and will be missed by all who knew her.

Jessie was born in Ogden, Utah on July 7, 1961 to Ed and Ruth (Pecht) Carr. Her family moved to Big Piney, Wyoming then Hansen, Idaho before settling in Twin Falls, Idaho in 1975. Ed passed away in 1976. This was a difficult loss for the family and Jessie would go on to remember losing her father in her teenage years as one of the biggest challenges she had to overcome. As the eldest of four sisters, Jessie balanced being the protector and occasionally playing a prank along the way

Growing up, Jessie was a fast runner, excelling in track. In Twin Falls, she attended Twin Falls High School and enjoyed swimming butterfly and freestyle on the local swim team.

Jessie married Kenneth (Ken) Hicks in Twin Falls in the early summer of 1987, moving their family to Port Orchard, Washington in 1988. She joined the IBEW in 1994 and enjoyed a 20-year career as a foreperson and tree trimmer for the Asplundh Tree Expert Company. Characteristically, Jessie acted as a Shop Steward, offering a calm, determined voice to those needing representation. She instilled this formidable work ethic and strong moral compass within her children.

Jessie was very creative, always painting or crafting in her spare time. The art she created will live on in the homes of her loved ones. Her favorite pastime was spending time with her grandchildren and proudly sharing stories of their achievements. She was well known for her ability to tell a great story – always sharing just the right amount of detail and delivering the perfect punchline.

She is survived by her loving husband of 33 years, Ken. Her siblings Cheryl, Toni, and Leann; Her mother Ruth and stepfather Howard; her daughters Athena and Bridget; son-in-law Bobbak; her stepchildren Tom (married to Amanda), Jackie, Manda, and Delaney; her grandchildren Anthony, Kiara, Mikayla, and Quintin; her step-grandchildren Jaiden, Suade, Hannah, Donald, and Jackson; along with several cousins, nieces, nephews and great grandchildren.

According to Jessie’s wishes, she will be cremated and her family will keep her ashes until a celebration of life can be scheduled sometime next summer. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in tribute to Jessie to the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance.
