Dorothy Schrad, 72, of Marshalltown, passed away suddenly on the evening of Tuesday, October 6th, at the UnityPoint Health in Marshalltown.  A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 10th, at St. Francis of Assisi Parish-St. Mary’s Church with Fr. Alan Dietzenbach officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. Friday at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with a 7:00 p.m. vigil service. She graduated from the Grand Island High School in 1966. In her hometown, she met this handsome young man who was serving our country honorably in the US Air Force. Richard Schrad and Dorothy Meyer were united in marriage on October 14th, 1967, in Sioux City.    In October of 1973, the young couple along with their family came to Marshalltown. Dorothy was employed at Security Bank for many years. She was a faithful member of St. Mary’s and enjoyed water walking at the Y. Her friends were considered an outreach of her family and she loved them all. Many would remember her for the ultimate Christmas display their family did at their home on Debra Drive, attracting many to appreciate. Most of all, she simply adored her family.   Left to cherish her memory is Richard, her loving husband of nearly 53 years; her children-Deborah (Robert) Jacobsen of Clermont, IA, Douglas (Kristine) Schrad of Sergeant Bluff, IA, Devin (Anita) Schrad of Mooresville, NC and Daniel Schrad of Johnston, IA as well as 13 precious grandchildren- Kenan Schrad, Noah Schrad, Logan Schrad, Brandon Hegler, Brittany Hegler, Alison Schrad, Kylie Schrad, Emily Schrad, Leah Schrad, Alycia Jacobsen, Ericka Jacobsen, Haley Jacobsen and Nicole Jacobsen,  and her first great-grandchild, Jonah Jacobsen,a as well as her siblings- Corrine Sigman, Connie Krohn, Janet Hill, Steve Meyer and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In death, Dorothy rejoined her parents and sister, Karen Samet.
