Doris Merle Cameron Slade, 92, a lifelong resident of Dixie Community, passed away October 6th at Asbury Hospice House in Hattiesburg. Due to COVID-19 limitations, the family will have a private graveside service with interment at Dixie Community Cemetery. Born November 17, 1927, the youngest of eight children, she grew up in Lamar county and graduated from Purvis High School in 1945. She became an LPN in the 1950s and worked at the Methodist Hospital for several years, but left to care for her growing family and her aging parents. She provided care and help to many beyond her own immediate family, and she will be missed by all. She is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Milan Slade; grandson, Cameron Slade; parents, Daniel and Lucretia Cameron, and seven siblings. She is survived by son Danny (Katie) Slade of Dixie Community and three daughters: Celita (Vernon) Lott of Rockwall, Texas; Rhonda (Ray) Payne of Calhoun, Georgia; Robin (Barry) Ousley of Hoover, Alabama. She is survived by six grandchildren: Mark Lott, Kay Nauman, Jane Krebs, Caroline Miles, Annie Miles, and Ian Ousley; and six great grandchildren: David Slade, Kamryn Nauman, Slade Nauman, Adele Krebs, Savannah Krebs, and Gracie Krebs. The family would like to thank Gerri Gregg and Lessli Vasquez for the help and care they provided over the last few years. It was an invaluable service to the family.
