David Mark Nyquist, Sr. Obituary

MARQUETTE, MI – David Mark Nyquist, Sr., age 69, of Marquette, passed away Monday, October 5, 2020, at home of natural causes. David was born April 16, 1951, in Escanaba, a son of Melvin and Shirley (Blomquist) Nyquist. Shortly after, the family moved to Marquette where Dave graduated from Marquette Senior High School, Class of 1969. He went on to attend Northern Michigan University. During his youth, Dave enjoyed playing baseball, football, basketball, and golf as an adult. He was employed for many years as a bank manager in Quinnesec, Marquette, and Menominee, as well as an insurance agent. In his spare time, Dave enjoyed spending time with his family at the camp in Gwinn, including games, cookouts, swimming, hunting and night fishing under the stars, spending time with his many beloved dogs, listening to classic rock, playing cribbage, and always waited with great anticipation the annual “Beer Camp” visits with his friends, Bart, Ward, Don, and Charlie. An avid sports fan, Dave’s favorites included Detroit professional sports, Michigan State sports, and the PGA. David is survived by his children, David (Melanie) Nyquist, Jr., of Green Bay, WI and Sara (Alan) Aichner of Menominee; his grandchildren, Ryan (Megan) Nyquist, Holly Nyquist, and Gabriel Shaw; brothers, Terry (Nancy) Nyquist of Salisbury, MD, Stephen (Danette) Nyquist of Canton; his nieces, Susan Nyquist, Minda Nyquist, and Nancy Nyquist; and the mother of his children, Nancy Nyquist. David was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Shirley Nyquist. Memorial donations may be directed to Meals on Wheels, c/o Community Nutrition Services, 1125 Commerce Drive, Marquette, MI 49855 or the American Lung Association, 55 W. Wacker Drive, Suite 1150, Chicago, IL 60601. The family would like to express their appreciation to David’s High Street neighbors, the many home health caregivers, UPCAP, and Helen who all helped Dave maintain his independence at home.
