Carl Joseph “Firecracker” Donajkowski, 77, of Alpena passed away Monday, October 5, 2020 at Sally’s Care Home.

Carl was born on July 4, 1943 in Alpena to the late David and Monica (Shalla) Donajkowski. On August 26, 1967, he married Sandra Barton. He served in the United States Army. Carl worked at Abitibi, retiring in 1998. He was a life member of Alpena V.F.W. Post 2496, the NRA, Alpena Sportsman’s Club, and founding member of Alpena Snowmobile Club. Carl volunteered for the Alpena Township Fire Department for 21 years. He enjoyed cooking, all outdoor activities, including hunting, fishing, and his many travels with his wife on his Harley.

Surviving are his wife, Sandra; sister, MaryAnn (Jon) Gunderson; two nephews, Gary Gunderson, James Gunderson; two sisters-in-law, Cathy Knechtel, Karen (Ken) Marciniak; niece, Krista (Brian) Fielder; and great niece and nephew, Andrew and Kyla.

Carl was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Dennis Knechtel and nephew, Kyle.

Cremation arrangements have been handled by the Bannan Funeral Home.
