It is with deep sadness that we have to report that BMCS (SW) Donald “Keith” Burnett USN (RET) has crossed over to his final duty station in Heaven. A Son, Brother, Husband, Father, A Mentor and Friend to many; he was born on October 29, 1958 in Paducah, KY, and died on Thursday, September 24, 2020 in Mobile, AL. Keith entered the U. S. Navy in 1976, beginning a 20-year Navy career, he was selected to the Brotherhood of Chief Petty Officers in 1986 and Senior Chief in 1992. He served at the following commands USS Patterson (FF-1071) 1976-80, USS Charleston (LKA-113) 1981-85, USS El Paso (AKA-117), BM school instructor Master Training Specialist at Little Creek VA Amphibious Base (1985-88), ACU-4 LCAC (Hovercraft) Craft-master (1988-92), while at ACU 4 he deployed with USS Whidbey Island LSD-41, and USS Gunston Hall (LSD-44); during his deployment with LSD-44 and ACU-4, he participated in combat landing operations during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm in (1991). Keith was the 1st LCAC Craft-master to place 5 LCAC’s at same time in the well deck of an LHD. Keith’s final duty station in the Navy he returned to Little Creek Amphibious Base, to train new LCAC operating crews, supervise installation and operation of LCAC training simulator, and Command Senior Chief (1992-96). He retired from the US Navy in 1996 and following retirement; he capitalized on his Navy training, and experience for a successful career in crew training for FMS ships in the Egyptian Navy, and the oil and gas industry both onshore and offshore. He was employed by Esfeller Construction at the time of his passing. He was baptized in the Baptist Church, a member of American Legion Post 1992 Gautier MS, and continued his lifelong charitable works as a member a of the Post 1992 Legion Riders. He is preceded in death by his father, Donald T. Burnett and mother, Micki Hack Burnett. He is survived by his son, Matthew Burnett, his sisters, Serina Burnett Outland (Tim Outland) and Laura Burnett Hubbard (Dean Hubbard) and brothers Jerry Burnett (Laurie McMurrian) and Paul Burnett (Pam Beech Burnett) and numerous nieces and nephews and several great nephews and nieces. Keith will be remembered for his love of the Navy, his giving nature and love for his family, and the love of all things related to Harley Davidson. He will be remembered fondly and missed by many. “Boats…. Fair winds and following seas shipmate, we have the watch, you stand relieved.
