Jo-Ann D Gorman Obituary

On Monday, October 5, 2020, Jo-Ann Gorman passed away at the age of 86.

JoAnn was born May 11, 1934 in Sanford, Maine to Joseph Vir and Viola (Johnson) Vir. She married Albert Gorman on September 28, 1957. Together they raised three daughters, Kathleen, Karen, and Kimberly. JoAnn worked as a switchboard operator in Hartford, Connecticut, a receptionist at Seaborne hospital in Dover, NH, and was the Co-Coordinator at the Dover Food Pantry.

JoAnn and her late husband, Al, traveled all over the United States and Germany throughout his career in the U.S. Army before settling in Dover, where JoAnn resided for 50 years. She was a devout Catholic who had a passion for gardening, loved going to the beach, and she cared deeply about animals. JoAnn was a staple in the Dover community through her volunteer work at the Food Pantry, Humane Society, Friends of the Library, and the Cooperative Ministries. Those who knew her remember her quick wit and kind heart. JoAnn had a very close relationship with her grandparents, Charles and Ida Johnson of Sanford, Maine, and her own grandchildren were the light of her life.

JoAnn was preceded in death by her father, Joseph, her mother, Viola, and husband Al. She is survived by her three daughters, Kathleen Bennett and husband Paul Bennett of North Hampton, NH, Karen Stewart of Dover, NH, and Dr. Kimberly Coolidge and husband Dr. Paul Coolidge of Pensacola, FL, her four granddaughters, Ciara Stewart, Tianna Stewart, Nina Coolidge, and Veronica Coolidge, and her two great granddaughters, Kiarah Hall and Ava Elliott. JoAnn also leaves several beloved cousins, her best friends Eunice Sinclair of Rollinsford, NH and Madeline Proulx of Dover, NH, and longtime friend Paul Smith of Rochester, NH.

A private graveside service will be held at St. Ignatius Cemetery in Sanford, Maine. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Pope Memorial Humane Society, 221 County Farm Rd, Dover, NH 03820 to honor JoAnn’s memory.
