She was born in Centerville, Iowa on July 3, 1938, the daughter of Absolam and Mamie (Brattain) Shepherd.  Anita graduated from Seymour High School with the class of 1956.  She was united in marriage to Max Rash on August 18, 1954 in Oskaloosa, Iowa, and to this union of marriage, five children were born, Kevin, Mickey, Kim, Joel, and Greg.  Anita and Max recently celebrated sixty-six years of marriage.

Anita was employed with the Seymour Community Schools as an executive secretary, a position she maintained for nearly twenty years.  She subsequently accepted employment with the Hy-Vee Corporate office, a job she held until her retirement.

When she wasn’t working or taking care of her family, Anita enjoyed many hobbies, including baking, cooking and quilting.  Furthermore, Anita was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church in Seymour and through her devotion, she was active in many aspects of the church, including playing the organ, singing in the choir, and serving on the church board.   Most importantly, she cherished the time that she spent with her loved ones.

She is survived by her husband, Max Rash of Seymour, Iowa; four children, Kevin (Patty) Rash of Los Angeles, California, Mickey (Don) Lindstrom of Lincoln, Nebraska, Kim Rash of Corydon, Iowa and Greg Rash of Urbandale, Iowa; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Beverly (Dave) Lotridge of Southern Missouri; along with several nieces, nephews, and a host of other family members.

Anita was preceded in death by her parents, Absolam and Mamie Shepherd; her son, Joel Rash and his wife, Sally; a brother, David Shepherd; and two sisters-in-law, Darlene Shepherd and Forrest “Casey” Flowers.

Joint Graveside services for Anita and Max will be held at 10:30AM, Saturday, June 12, 2021 at Southlawn Cemetery in Seymour, Iowa.  A public luncheon will take place following the graveside service at the Seymour Community Center in Seymour, Iowa.  A memorial has been established to the United Methodist Church of Seymour, and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, C/O Rash family, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa, 52544.  Condolences may be shared online at www.langefh.com.
