Donald “Don” Richard Matthies

September 15, 1953 – October 3, 2020

It was with great sadness that the family of Donald “Don” Matthies gathered by his side as he peacefully passed away at the Drayton Valley Hospital and Care Centre on Saturday October 3, 2020 at the age of 67 years.

He will forever be lovingly remembered by his wife Vera; children, Dawn Marie (Jody) Seely, Scott (Arran) Matthies, and Jacklynn (Mark) Pivovar. Don will also be fondly remembered by his grandchildren; Casper Seely (Dylan Thomas), Samantha Seely (Tanner Innis), Trey Newby, Shawn Kwirant, Joshua Pivovar and Calleigh Pivovar.

Also remembering him are Don’s siblings, Elizabeth (John) Sargent, Marilyn (Brian) Murdock, Kenneth Matthies, Daryl (Marnie) Matthies, Mark (Lynn) Matthies, Lorna (Dave) Pylychaty, and Raelene (Brent) Fieber as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Don will be missed by his faithful Sheltie, Zoey.

Don is predeceased by his parents, Raymond and Dora Matthies, brother-in-law Mel Olson, niece Courtney Ehrmantraut and sister-in-law Carol Berglund.

Don was a warm and wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, with an extraordinary sense of humour and ability to tell a great story. His kind and caring nature was felt by all. Don was an enthusiastic fisherman who loved to entertain and many will fondly remember his spectacular dinners.

Cremation has already taken place and a Celebration of Don’s life will be held at Life Church, Drayton Valley, Alberta on Friday, October 23, 2020 at 11:00 a.m.

The family wishes to express their heart-felt gratitude to Dr. Froud and the staff at Drayton Valley Hospital & Care Centre for their compassionate care and support to Don. The family also send their special appreciation to Daryl Matthies, Richard Erick, Stetson Motors, work associates, Rick Bateman and Louise Jacques; and hospital friend “Rooster”.
