Edward F Voggetzer Obituary

Edward F. Voggetzer, 84 of Taylorville, passed away at 4:05am on Saturday, October 3, 2020 at Decatur Memorial Hospital. He was born on December 16, 1935 in Pana, the son of Anthony “Tony” and Velma (Fink) Voggetzer. He married Marilyn D. Noren on July 19, 1958 in Taylorville and they recently celebrated 62 years of marriage. Ed was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in occupied Germany. He was the oldest living Past Commander of VFW Post 4495 in Taylorville. Ed owned and operated Auto Parts and Machine in Taylorville for many years. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Ed served for over 20 years on the City of Taylorville Board of Appeals. He was an avid golfer and worked as a ranger at Lake Shore Golf Course for many years. Ed was a diehard fan of the Chicago Bears and Fighting Illini, and was proud to be a member of the U of I Foundation President’s Club. Ed will always be remembered for his sense of humor. He was a true people-person, having never met a stranger. He adored his family, especially his grandchildren by whom he will be dearly missed. Ed is survived by his wife: Marilyn Voggetzer of Taylorville; children: Vonnie L. English (Ron) of Plainfield, Indiana and Anthony F. Voggetzer; grandchildren: Mary C. English and Emily A. English of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Jacob A. English of Plainfield, Indiana, and Andrew Zajac and Alex Zajac of Mesa, Arizona; and beloved dog: Baxter. He was preceded in death by his parents. Ed will be cremated, and a memorial mass will be held at 1pm on Thursday, October 8, 2020 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylorville with Fr. Alan Hunter officiating. Visitation will be from 11am until 1pm on Thursday in the church. Inurnment with military honors will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be left to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or VFW post #4495. CDC health guidelines will be followed including social distancing and the use of masks. McClure Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Taylorville is assisting the family with arrangements.
