Joyce Doreen Jones Obituary

Joyce Jones was born in the North Yorkshire seaside town of Redcar on Dec 6, 1954. She lived here during the early years of her life with her mom, dad and brother Andrew. At the age of 10, Joyce and her family moved a short distance away to a new home where she lived until she was married. Attending local schools, Joyce excelled in most subjects and after graduating, started her working career as an assistant librarian in her local library. With a passion for literature, the new role was perfect for Joyce! Joyce progressed through her career with numerous adventures and was eventually promoted to the role of senior library assistant, at Middlesbrough's main and central library. She worked here until she married Alan, before setting off together on their Canadian adventure in 1980. Shortly after moving to Canada in September 1980, Joyce secured a position at the University of Alberta Library where she worked until 1988. At this point, Joyce left to focus on the most important thing in her life - her family. Spending time with David and Alison was the happiest time in the world for Joyce. Joyce's children are a testament to her love, attention, and compassion that she provided, which has moulded them into the people they are today. Joyce and the family returned to the UK in 1992 due to family circumstances, settling in the picturesque North Yorkshire town of Stokesley, nestled at the foot of her beloved North Yorkshire Moors. The call of the librarian beckoned Joyce again, as she started a new role as a librarian at Macmillan Academy in Middlesbrough. Working at Macmillan until 2013, Joyce opted for early retirement after dealing with ongoing health issues. Initially unsure if early retirement was the right decision, it wasn't long before Joyce preached to all that her only regret was not retiring sooner. Early retirement provided Joyce with opportunities to indulge in her passion for gardening, reading, endless walks with her dog, Molly and an abundant amount of coffee morning catchups with friends. Upon Alan's retirement in 2016, and with David and Alison living in Canada, Joyce and Alan felt compelled for one final adventure. After selling the house and packing the bags, they returned to Canada and settled in the beautiful town of Okotoks, Alberta in 2018 where they spent time with family and friends, and their beloved new granddaughter. Joyce has touched and influenced so many people's lives in an infinite amount of ways. Always willing to listen and offer support. Forever compassionate, kind and thoughtful, Joyce was one of life's beautiful souls who will be missed greatly. A Private Celebration of life will be held At Snodgrass Funeral Chapel on Saturday October 10, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. Donations may be made in memory of Joyce to the Foothills Country Hospice Okotoks of to Heaven Can Wait Animal Rescue.
