Nolen Leon Cowsert

Nolen Leon Cowsert, 74 of Harrisburg, passed away on Thursday, October 1, 2020, at his residence surrounded by his family after a lengthy illness. Leon was born in Eldorado on February 4, 1946, to the late Dawsey Temple Obediah and Idabell (Stricklin) Cowsert. Leon was a coal miner and worked for Sahara Coal Co and was also a grain and pig farmer. Leon was known for his bib overalls and red shirt, he loved to shoot guns at the Harrisburg Hunters Club, loved to fish, camp and do woodworking, but most of all he loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. On November 27, 1964, he married Regina (Rash). and she survived in Harrisburg. In addition to his wife, he is also survived by a daughter, Rita (Tom) Griffith of Harrisburg and a son Jeff Cowsert of Indianapolis. Three grandchildren; Dustin Coker (special friend Lisa Porter and her son Drake), Casey (Brandon) Edwards and Keelan Coker. and Four great grandchildren; Kyleigh Coker, Cayden Edwards, Grayson Edwards and Harrison Edwards. A brother Tom (Brenda) Cowsert of Eldorado, four sisters; Rosale (Bob) Wick of Sheridan, IL, Linda Whitlock, Suzie (Jim) Pearson of Eldorado and Kitty (Jerome) Vigil of Harrisburg. Also surviving are brothers-in-law Daryl Rash, Derak (Donna) Rash, and a sister-in-law Karen (Rash) Crank all of Eldorado and his Mother-In-Law Ruby Rash of Eldorado, several special nieces and nephews, and a very special caregiver Cara Davenport. In addition to his own parents, he was preceded in death by his Father-In-Law Junior Rash, Brothers-In-Law Bob Wick and Hal D Whitlock. Funeral services for Leon will be held on Sunday, October 4, 2020, at 1:00 PM at Wolf Creek Cemetery. Dr. Roger Lyons will officiate. Burial will be in Wolf Creek Cemetery. For those who wish memorials may be made in his name to the Parkinson’s Foundation and envelopes will be available.
