M. Elahvonne Wright

<p><strong>M. Elahvonne Wright, age 91, of Knoxville, Iowa, formerly of Centerville, passed away Friday, October 2, 2020 at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines.</strong></p> <p><strong>Elahvonne was born the daughter of Dorin and Vera (Hiatt) Wailes on November 8, 1928 in Centerville, Iowa. She graduated in the class of 1946 of Centerville High School and remained active in class functions through the remainder of her life. On October 10, 1948, Elahvonne was united in marriage to Ivan Wright at the Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua.</strong></p> <p><strong>Elahvonne was a proud and supportive long time Centerville resident. She and Ivan served as youth center directors for a short time. She worked as an administrative professional at St. Joseph&rsquo;s Mercy Hospital, and enjoyed many community traditions such as homecoming and Pancake Day. She was an active member of Beta Sigma Phi International and PEO, and attended the Drake Avenue Christian Church for many years. She enjoyed playing bridge, participating in book club activities, and keeping in touch with many treasured and life-long friends. She was a caring supporter of her parents in the last years of their lives. Elahvonne was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ivan, and son, Vaughn.</strong></p> <p><strong>On October 28, 2007, Elahvonne joined Harold Wright in marriage at 1st Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Dexter, Missouri, presided by her son, Rev. Vaughn Wright. They lived together in Knoxville. Elahvonne and Harold enjoyed winters at Enchanting Shores Co-Op Park in Naples, Florida, going on adventures together, such as cruises to tropical areas, and attending Capri Christian Church in Marco Island and Good Shepard Lutheran Church in Knoxville.</strong></p> <p><strong>She is survived by husband, Harold Wright; daughter Marla (Mike) Swesey of Iowa City, IA; daughter-in-law Nancy (Vaughn) Wright of Republic, MO; four grandchildren, Shawn (Morgan) Wright of Springfield, MO; Shannon (Carrie) Wright of Nixa, MO; Micah (Brad) Swesey-Caruth of Madison, WI; and Marin Swesey of Chicago; and six great-grandchildren, Ayla and Oakely Wright; Blair and Elliot Wright; and Maia and Sam Caruth.</strong></p> <p><strong>Due to COVID-19 conditions, private family-only services will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to either the ALS Association (als.org) or Hemophilia of Iowa Inc.(hemophiliaofiowa.org), and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, C/O Wright Family, 1900 South 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544.
