Michael Stephan Waters, 1973-2020 Michael Stephan Waters, 46, of Potomac, MD, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, September 27, 2020. He was born in Corvallis, Oregon in 1973 to Paula Krup and the late Stephan Waters. Michael married Hang Ngo Waters of Vietnam on January 3, 2006. In addition to his beloved wife and mother, Michael is survived by his sons Lucas (10) and Drake (8), and his daughter Claire (2). Michael joined the U.S. Marine Corps in the last year of high school. During his 8-year tenure there, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and finished his undergraduate study from the University of Oregon. Upon honorable discharge in 1999, he worked for the National Marine Fishing Service and later the Microbiology Lab at Oregon State University. After obtaining his Ph.D. in Molecular and Computational Biology from the University of Southern California in 2009, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the National Institute of Standards and Technology. Since 2012, Michael served as a scientific reviewer and a team lead at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Michael loved cooking, travelling, and spending time with his family. A caring and fun-loving person, Michael is adored by his children and well loved by family and friends. He will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 11, 2020 at Cabin John Park, 7701 Tuckerman Ln, Potomac, MD 20854.
