Bernadette Beatrice Mary Kennedy Obituary

Bernadette Beatrice Mary (Pellerin) Kennedy August 9, 1919 – September 26, 2020 The family of Bernadette mourns her passing at the beautiful age of 101. She was a vibrant, healthy, happy woman who lived on her own up until 3 weeks ago. An avid reader all her life, she had interest in politics, sports, religion and of course her extended family’s activities and accomplishments. She was born near Cut Knife, Saskatchewan where she grew up and attended country schools. One of her favorite sports was playing baseball. Her first language was French and she had to learn English when she started school. She lost her mother at the age of 10 and helped care for her younger siblings. Bernadette learned how to sew while attending classes in Humboldt and made good use of her life long skill. All her grandchildren have teddy bears, Barbie clothes, old country Santa’s, quilts and some still wear clothes she created. On October 14, 1944, she marred Lionel Duncan Kennedy and together they had four children. The family moved many times because of Lionel’s work with the CNR. Lionel and Ben (as he called her) travelled through out Canada camping all the way. These were memorable trips. They retired in 1977 and later made their home in Mistatim to be closer to family. After Lionel’s passing in 1995, Bernadette travelled with her children to Europe where her son Ron coached hockey. She also visited grand children in the U.S.A and Europe. She thoroughly appreciated the history and scenery of far off places, and enjoyed reminiscing about her adventures. In July 2004, Bernadette moved to McKay Tower in Tisdale where she made many friends and participated in activities like shuffleboard, whist and cribbage and took a turn on the executive. On her 95th birthday, her family gifted her with a trip to Toronto to see the Blue Jays play. This was truly a highlight for her. She always watched the Blue Jays even up to her passing. Bernadette was the matriarch of the family; predeceased by her husband Lionel, her son Ron and all her siblings. Left to cherish her memory are her 3 children, Donna (Orville), Dianna (Bill) and Terry (Bethel) and daughter-in-law Rikki; 7 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and sister-in-law Margaret Pellerin, as well as many extended family and friends. All of us will miss her dearly. Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Lung Association or Canadian Cancer Society as a token of remembrance
