Kenneth C. Vaandrager Sheldon, Iowa Kenneth C. Vaandrager, age 92, of Sheldon, Iowa who passed away on Wednesday, September 30, 2020 at Sanford Sheldon Senior Care in Sheldon, Iowa. His funeral service will be 10:30 A.M. on Monday, October 5, 2020 at First Christian Reformed Church in Sheldon with Rev. Doug DeGroot ~ officiating. Burial will be at East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon. Public visitation without family present will be from 4 – 6 P.M. on Sunday, October 4, 2020 at Andringa Funeral Home – Sheldon. Visitation will resume with family present from 9:30 – 10:15 A.M. on Monday, October 5, 2020 at the First Christian Reformed Church in Sheldon. We ask everyone to comply to social distancing guidelines. The service will be live-streamed on the Eldridge Family Funeral Home Facebook page and will also be uploaded on the website after the service. The Service will also be live-streamed on First Christian Reformed Church website: www.atfirst.org Arrangements are under the care of the Andringa Funeral Home – Sheldon. Online condolences may be sent to www.vanderploegfunerals.com Kenneth Cornelius Vaandrager, the son of Gerrit and Bertha (Bajema) Vaandrager was born on a farm in rural Sheldon on February 7, 1928. He began his education at a country school, finishing at the Sheldon Christian School. Ken graduated from eighth grade in 1942 and went on to do what he loved, dairying and farming. Ken was united in marriage to Thelma Tien on August 10, 1955 at the Luctor Christian Reformed Church in Kansas. They spent their married life working together on their farm. In 2005 they moved into Sheldon. He continued to help on the farm daily, until he began taking Thelma to dialysis three times a week for 8 years. Ken lovingly and willingly made these trips as a compassionate husband. Ken was a member of the Sheldon First Christian Reformed Church where he served as a deacon and elder. Ken served in the Army National Guard for 6 years. He was on the board of the Ritter Farmers Coop. His love of dairy and farming showed through with his many Holstein and John Deere items displayed though out the home. Ken’s life was centered around the love of God and the love he had for his family. He was blessed with 3 children, 11 grandchildren and 13 great- grandchildren. Ken passed away at Sanford Sheldon Senior Care on Wednesday, September 30, 2020 reaching the age of 92 years, 7 months and 23 days. Those left to cherish his memories are his children; daughter, Gayla Vaandrager of Rock Valley, IA; son, Keith (Marcia) Vaandrager of Sheldon, IA and their children, Melisa Vander Plaats (Rylie), Susan (Jason) Moser (Brittney, Dalton, Keyton, Blake), Steve (Chasitie) Vander Plaats (Tyler, Emma, Kaitlyn); son, Kevin (Darla) Vaandrager of Sheldon, IA and their children, Krista (Ross) Oolman (Deacon), Koni (Rick) Leusink (Annie, Case, Kip, Ruthie), Kole (Christina) Blankespoor; sisters, Everdean (Abram) Van Dyke, Bonnie (William) Nanninga; sister-in-law, Gretta Vaandrager; brothers and sisters-in-law, Clarence (Betty) Tien, Marion (Joyce) Tien, Wanda (Calvin) Schemper; numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Thelma, parents; parents-in-law, John and Pauline Tien; brother, Francis (Bud) Vaandrager; sister/brother-in-law, Thelma & Clarence Verhoef and brother-in-law/sister-in-law, Henry & Ann Tien.
