Laurie Stafford Tenney Obituary

CASTINE– Laurie Stafford Tenney passed peacefully on the final day of her favorite season, September 21, at the age of 62 after a long and magnificently courageous battle with Crohn's disease. She was born in San Francisco on January 2, 1958 the daughter of Samuel and Marjorie Wall Stafford. She was raised in Bethesda, Maryland where she graduated from Walter Johnson High School. Laurie moved to Castine with her mother, stepfather and two sisters in 1975 where she met her future husband and later graduated from the University of Southern Maine. Laurie was employed by the Maine Maritime Academy and became Executive Assistant to two Presidents, Gov. Kenneth Curtis and Leonard Tyler. She retired early due to growing health issues. 'Laur' loved the beach and vacationed on Sanibel Is., Florida, Playa-del-Carmen, Mexico, Saint Martin in the Caribbean and her beach at Little House on Wadsworth Cove in Castine. Margie called Laurie her “Perky-nosed-baby.” She became much attached to her extended family of Tenneys and Youngs and was proud to have been part of the family golf tournament, The Greater Granny Open, which she won with her dear cousin Hy in 1995. Our “Moo-girl” had a great sense of humor and loved life and food, beach picnics, her precious cat Mosey, her herb garden, flower garden, her little private pool, Christmas stockings, and her family. Laurie is survived by her husband and best friend of 39 years Bradford Tenney of Castine; her sister Molly Stafford of Boynton Beach, Florida, her brother Daniel Stafford, and nephew Nicholas and niece Abbie of Gaithersburgh, Maryland, and many cousins. She is also survived by her dear extended family of three brothers- and sisters-in-law, three nieces, three great nieces and two great nephews. Laurie was predeceased by her father and stepmother Samuel and Judith Stafford, her mother and stepfather Marshall and Marjorie Wood and a sister Jennifer. Laurie's family would like to thank, for their enduring care over these many years, Dr. Marjorie Olivari and staff of the Castine Health Services, Blue Hill Memorial Hospital and Eastern Maine Medical Center. Laurie was particularly thrilled at her Life Flight ride from Blue Hill to Bangor this past summer. A celebration of her life will be held later on a date to be announced.
