Kevin W. East Obituary

Kevin W. East passed away at his home in West Jordan, Utah, on Friday, September 18, 2020, from a heart attack. Kevin was born on October 22, 1973 in Dallas, Texas, to Jerry and Betty East. The Easts moved from Plano, Texas to Salt Lake City, UT on July 24, 1989. On September 16, 2006, Kevin married Meredyth Powell in the East home. Meredyth’s father, Joe Powell, performed the ceremony. Kevin has a daughter, Ashley (19), from a previous marriage. Meredyth has a daughter, Mia (17), from a previous marriage. Kevin and Meredyth have one son together,Owen (10). In his childhood, teen and adult years, Kevin excelled in school, sports, and music. He attended both Salt Lake Community College and the University of Utah, studying economics and psychology. His determination and hard work made it possible for him to graduate early. Always active, Kevin participated in soccer, baseball, golfing, Tae Kwon Do (black belt), BMX riding, and football. Music was an integral part of Kevin’s life. Early on he was in a marching band and played the trumpet. He also participated in school choir. His real love was Punk Rock music! When he got together with Meredyth, they had to find some common ground for her love of folk music. They found that in Frank Turner and attended many of his concerts. Kevin is a self-taught technology whiz. He worked for seventeen years for Blue Cross/Blue Shield (Cambia), and loved his job. He was grateful for the close connections he had with his team. He had many beloved hobbies. Music, of course. Cars, especially his newest Jeep Wrangler. Traveling with the family. (They’ve taken at least sixteen major trips, and a myriad other road journeys.) Beaches were his favorite places…the waves, the beach combing, the sand dollars and sea glass…all combined to take away stress. Nothing was more important to Kevin than his family. He and Meredyth were a perfect team. He watched virtually every horse show that Ashley performed in. He supported Mia in her piano, dancing, drumming, and art. You would see him at each and every one of Owen’s soccer matches, baseball games, and outdoor plays. You would often find Kevin attending performances by Hailey and Teagan, his nieces. Benji and Remi were/are Kevin’s pets. He adored his dogs. Kevin is survived by Meredyth, Ashley, Mia, and Owen. Also by his parents, Jerry and Betty East, his sister Andrea (Daren) Ross, and their girls Hailey and Teagan. A tiny nephew, almost 2-year old, Finnian, passed away on May 1, 2020, and we hope Kevin is playing soccer with him wherever they are. Picture them with punk hair! A family Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, October 3, 2020 in Draper, UT. Special thanks for all of the love and support received by family and friends, including, the Go Fund Me page. Support from Kevin’s work team is deeply appreciated. JetBlue friends/family, we thank you sincerely.
